I am so happy with SKS. Harold Rice's daughter, Ruth Rice Crone, is such a pleasure to talk with and she has been very courteous and professional. Ruth has participated in some discussions here on the Café. I ordered a few different items from her and will order several other items over the next couple of months. Everything arrived within two to three days of her receiving payment. And things were packaged in a kind of "old world" manner --- for example, silks and streamers were folded and wrapped in paper, stored inside a plastic bag, and that inside of either a manila envelope or a folder that was labeled with the item name and number. In short, what I am saying is that it wasn't just the quality of the silks that has impressed me, it has also been the quality of service.
The last item I received was a 25 foot long, multicolor streamer. It is such a beauty to behold. The photo on the website does not do it justice. The brightness of the colors and the quality of the hems are simply exquisite. (Gee, can you tell I am more than quite satisfied?) I have always wanted this streamer ever since I viewed the Paul Diamond video "Symphonette in Silk" in which he produces the same silk (except it is 100 ft. long on the video) from a can of Coca Cola! Next up for me: a six foot silk and a 50 ft. streamer. I highly recommend Silk King Studios. And Ruth does offer magicians deals on some items that may have some slight irregularites (which are not always that noticeable). Jimmy

I totally agree with you Jimmy, it is like I just made a new friend by talking to her. We had an interesting discussion about her hot weather compared to ours.(very cold for those of you who haven't travelled to "Winterpeg"). Her package came in very quick, and I could not be more pleased. Performing with these silks has made me seem more professional, the colour beaming off the silks is very beautiful, infact.. I had people in the front row whispering and pointing at the silks as they were cascading out of the fountain. I have been complimented many times by magicians asking where these can be bought, and I haven't been more happy to say Mrs. Crone from Silk King Studios.
Mrs. Crone, if you had the time to read this, I would like you to know I am very very happy off the expertise that you have done for everyone, and that I wish you all the best in the future. Evan |

Yes, I also experienced her excellent service. I'm curious if anyone can tell me what the status of SKS is - are the silks once again being produced, or is remaining stock being exhausted? The selection on the website is kind of inconsistent - some silks are available in 24 inch, but not 18...not all color patterns available in some art silks.

Mrs. Crone is a member on this Café, cannot recall her username, but she will have all your answers to your questions.

At the top of the page "Smooth as silk" you will see the SKS advertising banner. I'm sure their web site will be helpful.

Ditto Jimmy the very best.
Magic is a dream in which we put ourselves in the fantasy of the reality that surrounds us. It's a wishful thinking that all human kind posses. It's life itself. And I for one believe in it.

Thanks to all of you for the wonderful comments about Silk King Studios and my dad’s terrific silks. I am both pleased and honored to be selling the remainder of the inventory to the magic community. The best part of this endeavor is receiving the fantastic emails and letters about my dad and mother, Harold and Thelma Rice!
Ron asked about the status of Silk King Studios. All the silks I am selling are from the remaining inventory of dad’s silks. Dad would perform the greatest magic trick ever by coming down from above to personally stop me from trying to duplicate what he so uniquely was able to do through years of research about silk and silk magic and his extraordinary talent in art and design. This explains why not all colors and patterns are available. It is simply impossible to duplicate his product. As Jimmy said, I am selling selected items with slight irregularities at good discounts. Send me an email or PM stating specific items you are interested in obtaining. See this link for additional information: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/searc......=4054248 |

I guess this means that once that inventory is gone, it CANNOT be had again! That ought to motivate! I have silks from them that are over THIRTY years old, and still look exactly as new as when they were bought! You DO get what you pay for, and twenty years from now (or sooner?), you're going to see people kick themselves for not taking advantage...
Remember the old Petrie & Lewis? I STILL kick myself for selling my P & L items...a lot of those items can never be replaced, at least not cheaply (do an eBay search for P&L magic, and you'll see what I mean). As the saying goes, "get 'em while you still CAN!" Doug |

I continue to be impressed with Ruth Rice Crone and Silk King Studios. I won't get into the details here but she is a such a wonderful lady who really stands behind her family's legacy in the world of silk magic. I thank you again, Ruth!
Jimmy Posted: Apr 25, 2005 10:05am --------------------------------------------------------------- I just received my last order from Silk King Studios. A Rabbit in the Hat Deluxe Blendo which has such vibrant colors. And a six foot dragon silk (black) --- simply spectacular! The photo of this silk on the SKS site is quite good but seeing this in person is a whole different experience. Even my 16-month-old daughter seemed to be looking at all the details on the dragon silk. I was surprised that she looked at it for a couple of minutes when I had it spread out on the sofa. Hey, Cardone, get your 36" dragon silk. You know already that you won't be sorry. I am planning on ordering an 18" and a 36" dragon silk (as well as a dragon deluxe blendo) and then try to work on an enlarging silk routine with the dragon. I have to think of a story to go with this since I am planning on doing a couple of shows at my daughter's school next month. But in a couple of weeks I will be using it for both a "flash" silk appearance and then a production (person). Silk King Studios is alive and well! I will reiterate what Dougini said at the end of his post, "Get 'em while you still can!" Jimmy

I have dealt with some good magic dealers in my time, but SKS is truly amazing service. Can't wait to receive the products now - following their rave reviews! Kindest Regards DAK |

Jimmy,
I'll certainly agree with you about Ruth and her family. That young lady came from good stock and she's still improved the image. Class never goes out of style! Her daddy patiently put up with my thousands of questions too many times. I owe him a lot that I have no way to ever repay. He was the good professor always coaching. In the 80s, I remember him saying that since there was no one left to hand letter his book, he wasn't sure he wanted another. People know him for silk but at heart he was really an artist. It had to look good to be good. Otherwise, it wasn't time. Harold Rice and my wife Lucy would have agreed on a lot of things in the area of art. Rushing an artist is like trying to push a long string up hill with twizzers. They know what they want and won't settle for anything else. Fortunately, they ultimately produce it. Don't let anyone talk you out of your real Rice (SKS) slks. They are treasures. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I recently received my first and certainly not last SKS order, after coming across them in a Café thread (I was seeking comments on dye tubes).
I must say I am extremely impressed by the service provided by Ruth. The quality of goods that came through was exceptional, and presentation was absolutely top notch. In a nutshell, when compared to the many and various suppliers I have dealings with, SKS come out streets ahead. A different league entirely. What more can I say? 'Go and see. Try a buy. Enjoy' Cheers FB

I'd just like to add my similar sentiments. I purchased a few items from SKS and the experience has been nothing but pleasurable. First, I had a truly delightful conversation about silks and related matters with Ruth on the telephone. Then, after placing my order, it arrived promptly. As other have said, the packaging was simply unexpected. Not only were silks individually wrapped in tissue (I though I might have bought a fine shirt when I first saw the packaging!), but they came with a folder that contained my typed order and a 3-page memo on how to care for the silks. And, the silks are simply superb. Deep, rich color (their web site pictures in no way do these silks justice) and the hemming is quite incredible. What quality. I also bought a copy of the third volume of the Encyclopedia. It’s all hand lettered!
What a wonderful discovery. Thanks, Ruth! Gary |

Yes, Gary, I agree. The photos on the website, while quite good, just don't do justice to the beauty and detail of the silks. I received four 36" butterfly silks from Silk King Studios (which I just ordered on Thursday). Simply beautiful. The colors are hypnotizing. I can't say enough about both the quality of goods and service that Ruth Rice Crone delivers. Thanks again!
