I ordered 2 sets of RNT2's Stainless Steel Monti Cups based on their ad that states:
" This is an investment you will not regret and a collectible you will cherish for years to come... very limited, so order now. When they are gone they might be gone for good!" So how is it that they are now BACK IN STOCK? If other items follow this pattern, why am I shelling out good money for a "limited edition destined to become a collectable", when they just keep making more stock? For the record, I am not bashing RNT2. I be;ieve it is a valid question. Thanks! |

"When they are gone they might be gone for good!"
*might* is the key word here..... The "might be gone for good" can be used on every single magic item out there... don't fall for it. I'd be much more miffed if they stated "There will only be 40 made, and there will be none made after those 40 are sold!" very clearly and then went and released a bunch more...(that's happened to me...) |

I'll try to clear this up for you David. When we spin, we spin in lots. Stainless takes quite a bit of work and time to polish after the spinning process. The cups that were released were half of the first run, maybe a bit more. We currently have 24 sets that were spun, but we had not polished until now. This was listed as a limited supply because at the time the
Limited editions such as our Gold, Silver and special run series will never exceed our limit that is listed in our descriptions or ads. We simply just don't do that. I'm not sure if Daegs is referring to us when he says this has happend to him before, because we have never over run a limited edition series, with the exception of the prototypes that we keep in house after the release. I wasn't refering to you at all!
I'm just saying, that over-running a "might be limited edition" is not even a smidge as bad as over-running a hard "There will only be X ever made" type statement, which does happen in the magic world, actually pretty often when compared to some other hobbies. |

Thank you for clearing that up. Hmmm..."MIGHT", I totally overlooked that word (Still learning to read).
I agree with Daegs..."Limited Edition" seem to be in unlimited supply (I'm not referring to RNT2, but it does happen with others) |

You know I have had just the opposite experience. I see an item that I like (usually at Denny’s) and go away to think bout the purchase thinking that there will be thousands made (an unlimited supply). I go back and find that he has just sold the last one and no more are available. There are a number of props that I wish I had of bought because they are not being made any longer.
I don’t buy “collectables” on purpose. I buy working props. Many have become collectable due to their scarcity (the maker died or got disinterested in making the specific prop or got out of magic all together). When I finally add something to an act and it is prop dependent, I try to buy two or three more of the prop. My experience is that props wear out with use or get lost, stolen, or borrowed. The absolutely last thing I want is a necessary prop that is in limited production.
