I think the point is so people don't have to waste money on a trick that ends up being really crappy. A ton of magicians will be happy that they are doing this for them, it is a very nice thing on their part. If they didn't have this site, a ton of magicians, that are registered, would've lost a ton of moneyby now(maybe).
Always think hard about it first, the_houdini_jester

So the copyright question I cannot answer, I know of some tricks that they are originally created by the posters. The internet is a free resource of information and accessible by most. Since the birth of the internet there has always been the copyright question. IMHO I don't think it is to us, to answer this question. All I can, and will do, is if the creator of a trick sends me a notice that we are violating his copyrights, is to remove the trick from our indexes. b) I don't know if you took the time, to take a look at our site? If not I will try to explain our philosophy: "If you have the knowledge, why not share it, if it brings you new knowledge?" It is not my intention to spoil secrets to layman or to prevent people from making money if they invented a trick. If you take the effort and search the web you will be able to find many secrets and tricks for free. FalseCuts is just a collection of tricks that are accessible by people that are willing to put in some effort from their part. So we don't sell tricks, we exchange tricks. I think this approach isn't a new approach, during my years in magic a spoke to many fellow magicians and we always exchanged tricks, shared knowledge. The internet gives us the opportunity to do this on a worldwide basis. So don’t say you never exchanged a trick or two. c) Yes I think the world needs a good online collection of tricks that is organized and open and clear to every magician. As far as I know there is only one other good resource and therefore I don’t think the http://www.falsecuts.com is just ‘another’ trick resource. It is The other resource. At the moment we are approaching trick number 300, personally I think that this tells us enough and looking at the reactions from members in this thread and the personal emails that are send to me, I know that what I do is appreciated. I do hope that this answers your questions, and maybe one day we can welcome you at FC. Best regards Bas Pisa

So, if I am a fan of White Stripes, which I am, I could start a site for Stripes fans so that we could all submit their music there. Of course, I don't now if it is ripped from their albums or played by the who ever is sending it. Some are sending their own music. Is that the same? When I meet friends we swap music and listen it together. I think White Stripes would agree, wouldn't you?
Did yo contacted anyone before starting this site, any inventor or publisher that is? Tommy Wonder is your county man, does he agree? If all of the tricks, or even most, are original then great. Hell, where can I sign in. But if they are just copied from the books and videos... |

Houdini the Jester,
Did you really think about it hard? I think Ford should give free cars for us so that we wouldn't have to drive with crappy cars and cars always breakdown so why should we pay. I bet a tons of drivers would be happy. First of all, there are not that many crappy effects. None, if you read the reviews carefully and ask recomendations from the wiser magies. Second, why would anyone want to reveal their new invention to the magic community when they now it will be stolen from them. They are not making a lot of money even now. I would be so happy if everything was free in the world. Yes, a tons of people would just love it. |

If you are interested in researching the background of all 400 tricks in the falsecuts database, then some of them will probably be removed, if it can be proved that they are not in the public domain. (That's all up to Bas Pisa, since he is the moderator.)
Maybe you had no replies, because not very many people dredge up old threads. Or perhaps they are just sick of arguing about this. And like he said, he is the moderator, he approves the tricks, but he is not the one who submits them. Nobody researches the background of every trick that is submitted. We all have real lives to live...like I said, if you want to volunteer, I'm sure something can be worked out.

I love Falsecuts.com ! Great website, and Tabasco is the coolest guy. I like how the website is very well organized and there are different levels to obtain depending on how much you share with the other members.
