Which do you think is the best stand up one coin routine, using no gaffs and just one coin?
I like very much "The lapel coin" by D. Roth, mixed with some vanish/reproduction moves, ending with a jumbo coin production, but I'm looking for something I can do impromptu (any coin any time).

Have you tried David's routine as written in Expert Coin Magic ? If so, what have your found lacking and what do you desire?

Thank you for your reply.

I tried that beautiful one coin routine and I use to perform it in my formal shows, but as I told in my previous message, I'm looking for something different. Something away form vanish & reproduction moves. I know that is difficult using just one coin, but I would something "different" to show on the spur of the moment with a borrowed coin.

Brillus:

How much can a coin actually do aside from appear, vanish, penetrate, change, go across, and multiply? I would look into penetrations, however, what about using two coins making them appear as only one....that way, your options are a bit more playable so to speak.

I would recommend creating your own routine now that you are familiar with Roth's.

Now that you added "penetrate" we have something to discuss.

Have you seen Curtis Kam's routine from POS3?

Brillus,
Transportation and penetration are always effective in an impromptu situation with a borrowed coin. There are many good effects in 'Modern Coin Magic' that can be adapted and run together as a mini routine!

I have seen Curtis's routine in person and on the video. Very nice work.

Hi Michele,

Welcome to the forum. With a one coin routine I have found it to be a great fun way to utilise all those sleights and quick tricks that you've been learning over the years. How abut creating your own routine?

Ideas to consider may be coin through hand, coin under watch, HPC to show 2 coins (one in each hand), coin through hankercheif or T-Shirt, load to spectators pocket or shoulder, Paul Cummins invisible hand, coin roll, MP, Slydini style over the head routine roping in a stooge to catch the coin. Lots of ideas in bobos too play with, Bob Fitch has some excellent stuff in his notes too...how abut using some Goshman ideas and loading the coin under stuff?

Endless possibilities Smile

I very much like R. Paul Wilson's One Coin Routine in his Twists of Fate video. Just 3 moves in the whole routine but it is very powerful to laymen.

I can recommend the Slydidi one coin routine.
The sleight of hand is almost non-existent - it is all about misdirection and timing.
I worked on it for two years before I dared to show anyone. then one person glimpsed me practising and was blown away....it is now one of the few effects I have added to my regular staple.

Two that I like to do with a quarter are
a variation of "Just Pretend" in Bobo's
and coin to pen cap.

Jaz,

I love Just Pretend.........excellent routine....

I have cool one coin routine that features a cool complete vanish WITH a retrieval so you can continue with the same coin and a penetration of a finger thru the coin. I have the video edited by Jeff Wessmiller that I can send to anyone interested in the routine.

Just PM me, or e-mail me at ericdaredd2002@yahoo.com

Of course we would need to mention Mickey Silver and what he can do with one coin - in his mouth, through his ears, etc. Good looking things with just a coin.

Also, I'm not sure of all who is familiar with Eric Anderson from Atlanta. He has a very clever one coin routine. Cheers,

I love Erics Production of a jumbo coin. Fooled the hell outta me the first time I saw it. I think it can be found in Ah Ha! by him and David Harkey. I know it can also be found on his lecture video taped at Marc DeSouzas Theatre.

I like a routine from Jerry Andrus, I can't remember the name of the effect, but you show two playing cards front and back, a few other moves, then when they are placed together, a coin slides out from between the cards into the spectator's hand.

I have also used some of the same moves/ideas to make the coin appear from a borrowed dollar bill. Then I hand the bill back, but I get to keep the change.

Gregory Wilson has an effect called Quicksilver in his On the Spot dvd. All you need is an extra quarter in your pocket, and you can perform it anytime anywhere with borrowed money. The routine is built so that you can easily ditch the duplicate at the end leaving you with just 1 coin.
