Just a figure of speech, but if you had proponents I'm sure you would've just accepted them without question...Smile

And I'm sorry about thinking you always agree with Jon...It just seems like you do. Smile

Oh, and glad you tricked the hounds, but that running through water stuff don't work too good, not against good hounds. Smile

*Maybe my smilies are sincere...Smile Just kidding.Smile You might start over with it, maybe you missed something.

Geez,
Mr. Townsend,
I don't post as often as others.
But I do read. I hope that this behavior doesn't keep you from posting here on this forum. Your thought prevoking scenarios and motivational ideas are inspiring.
It would be nice if you had a section on the buffet where you could type your ideas without foolish responses.

get out and do some magic folks, think about the victims of katrina....things could be worse for you.... Smile

Just edging back towards the topic Smile ...

I really like David Roth's one coin flurry and also the one that Michael Ammar teaches on his Easy to Master Coin Magic videos.

What I ended up using was a mixture of both. Mind you, I do this at gigs so I'm set up for Roth's lapel coin and I also have a jumbo coin in my right pants pocket.

As far as impromptu goes, take a look at David Stones' coin magic videos, particularly the first one. He has a routine where the coin appears, vanishes and seems to jump all around and even transforms into a pen!

Cheers
Billy

Thanks for bringing it back on topic Billy!

Mickey Silver can do wonders with just one coin.
Jay Sankey has a quick routine with a coin appearing and disappearing by the use of sleight of hand and "Hypnosis".

With or without motivation, they are entertaining and they work! That is what its all about at the end of the day. There is Parayisis in too much analysis. The end user is the spectator and they really don't care about the "whys" of things. At least not as much as magicians. They usually just enjoy the experience of seeing something unusual.

Peace y'all!

That was paralysis in analysis. You know how, the spelling police hide behind the bushes. Just wanted to be careful! Lol!

Rannie's right as usual here...Mickey Silver can take one coin and blow your mind. I've seen a lot of one coin routines, many very nice like my man Eric Jones' piece - very well done! But with all due respect, when you see what Mickey can do along those same lines with that SUV of his, well you're seeing magic of another level that at the moment only he can do, and that he will do best for some time to come. There are a lot of nice moves discovered and created, like my man Vinny does everytime he wakes up to brush his teeth - an idea pops in his brilliant mind and he shares it with anyone interested...But Mickey's move, I'm sure he'd agree, is a once in a lifetime thing. It seems to give you new parameters and dynamics, especially in one coin routines - Quite simply, he'll blow you away, doubt if too many guys can stand up to his kind of flurry. If you know someone any better, name'em! Smile Gotta mention dredz here as he can do the do, too with one coin or many...Smile And Rannie is pretty slick himself with the coin(s) and the cards. Smile I'll tell'ya The Godfather's "La Famiglia" is gonna be something else with all these guys and even more hitting the matresses in it. Hey, "Routine" THIS! - One Coin, 5 coins, 10 coins, I can't wait! Smile

To get back on topic...my vote for the all time greatest one coin routine goes to Slydini. In all my life, I have never seen, (or learned) a flurry that was as beautiful and deceptive as this one master routine....hands down. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

Is there somewhere to see Slydini's routine? I've seen various versions of his one coin routine in books, and I have the annotated Slydini book put out by L&L a few years ago; but actually seeing his work would be cool too. I've got the Goshman tape of one of his performances at the Castle. Not as good as seeing Al live, but better than just reading about the master. I'd like to add Slydini to the collection. Thanks!

I have videos of Slydini at work. They are not his coin works though. Slydini was simply awesome.

Sadly, VERY sadly, footage of Slydini's performances are extremely rare.

On page 70, of "The best of Slydini...and more",you can see his "one coin routine".

This was a set of 2 books, one with the text and the other with many pictures of Slydini doing his "magic".

A great set of books!

The one coin routine can be found in its original description inside Slydini Encores, which is also available in electronic media.

There are some Slydini students who do justice to the magic. If you get into the NYC area, J. P. Laramee is around. We were peers in the late 1970s and I've seen him do several of the Slydini routines so well you would think they are his own work. Rare to see the material done well. Even more unusual to find them done in a way that also communicates both the joy of the magic and the joy of the performer.

There is footage and it's not offered for sale very often. It exists on video and if you ask the right people NICELY it is not so difficult to get to see the Dick Cavette performances and some other TV footage.

If you can get to the major centers for magic in this country, there are several working Slydini students who might be able to show you a reflection of their teacher.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

Yes, Rocco was one of Slydini's student...but as far as I'm concerned...Slydini's best student ever was Bill Wisch!

I think it is imperative that the masters magic should be passed on for future generations to enjoy through his devoted students. It would unthinkable for Slydini's lifetime of work to die. It must be preserved at all costs!

Rannie, Bill is from Jersey...He does/did have some videos on the market along with several small manuscripts. Unfortunately he never did a big book as people could have learned a lot through him. Sorry to say, I don't know where they can be purchased from. However, Bill has posted here on the Café in the past...do a search, perhaps you'll find him...drop him a PM find out what he has. Bill is truly one of the nicest and most talented guys in magic...not to mention probably one of the best kept secrets as well!
