Hirase, I have it and like it. I usually have the specatator make an "X" on George Washington's nose with the pen. After that, I fold the bill in half (short end to short end) with George's face inside. I place the pen in the open top putting the gaff outside the folded bill, toward my body. Because of the way the pen is constructed, the gaff will be at a 90 degree angle to the pen.

Now, I push the pen straight down until it hits the bottom of the fold. It carries the gaff with it, and the point of the pen is seen to pop through the folded bill. I then open the bill to see if we hit the target on George's nose. Finish in the usual way, handing the bill to the spectator and laying the pen down within reach (without the gaff) as I uncap it. I've done this scores of times and NO one has ever even picked up the pen. Of course, it wouldn't matter if they did...

Just be careful of angles. Yóu can't have anyone standing to the side with this presentation. There are inconsistencies in uncapping the pen, but no one has ever noticed. In fact, those little inconsistencies in effects are what, for me, make them a pleasure to perform.

I assume it's the same method as Hankey's but Dan Harlan also has a version on his close up video. I usually do the impromptu method first with everything borrowed, since they ALWAYS say "Do that again" I do the gaffed version since I just happen to have a pen on me.

I believe the gaffed method is stronger visually so I warm them up with improptu and put the gaffed version in their face. Since methods are completely different I don't think a repeat is a problem. I used to find using gaffs and having to ditch intimidating but the misdirection in this illusion is soo strong I've never had a problem. It actually built up my confidence for performing similar tricks.
