Where can I purchase a good set of plans for only the dollhouse illusion? I have bought some in the past, but they are to vague to build the illusion. I don't want a book with a lot of different illusions in it, I am only interested in the dollhouse.

Rick - There are a couple different styles of the doll house. Do you have an assistant in mind? If so, some general stats (height, approx weight, approx body type, etc.) will help to point you in the right direction.
There is more than one position for the assistant as well. If you know what you want, PM me the details, and I might be able to help. --- Guy |

A good place to look is http://hamiltonholtinc.site.yahoo.net/plans1.html. That is Paul Osborne's website. He currently offers three different versions of the Doll House plans; The "Candy/Don Rose Doll House," "The Classic Doll House" and the "Doll House (Oriental)." Hope this helps.

Paul Osborne has published a book of classic illusions. He has included all his doll house plans in this one book.

Rick,
You might enjoy a chat with Ricker here on The Magic Café. He is an illusion builder and should have plans from all of them. Your use and assistant's attributes are going to be critical to a good choice here. In hindsight from my own experience, I would get multiple tops, if you are really a hard working magician. Needs for individual shows change and the tops set the scene. (They are also the cheap part.) Bob Magic By Sander |

I highly recommend the Owen plans. The Owen plans give you every exact detail that you need to properly build the illusion right down to screw and nail sizes.

I would second that on the Owen plans. It is also a good place to get an eductaion on building a taper base. (That is, if you plan to build it yourself.)

We started the Dennis Loomis Doll House DVD version today. This has been called the most deceptive Doll House Illusion of all times... not by me, but by: Doug Henning, David Copperfield, Charlie Reynolds, Pete Biro, Abb Dickson, and many more. Hundreds of the Workshop plans were sold world wide many years ago.
The new edition will be a DVD with printable files of all of the drawings. But, the illusions concepts will be discussed in details, as will be the Loomis Sword Temple, Horse Production and more. We hope to have the DVD's ready in time for the IBM Convention in Reno. (Which I'll be attending.) The Workshop plans cost $35.00 in the eighties and early ninties. The DVD will have a LOT more information, performances, and will cost less. Dennis Loomis

Hey all;
I have a copy of the Loomis Doll House Plans from back when, and I will say this about it...it is THE MOST DECEPTIVE design in a doll house! Simple and sure fire, and just mind bogling. There's even an additional little jump in the illusion by the assisstant that makes it even more asstounding! If you can get your hands on these plans. Definatly try, I know mine aren't leaving my hands any time soon. AMAZING work Mr. Loomis. Can't wait to see some more of your work on your new DVDs. Was the Jim Steinmeyer Doll House (as performed by Doug Henning) ever published or offered by a builder? I've got a clip of Doug performing it and it's pretty amazing.

To Matt,
Thanks so much for the kind words. Everything on your old Paper copy of the workshop plans will be included on the DVD. The diagrams are on PDF files, so you can put the DVD into your computer and print them out. But, we can also include live action footage, so there will be performance video. Primarily, though, there will be a thorough discussion of illusions design as it relates to my Doll House and several other illusions. (And one small apparatus prop.) There will also be a performance segment of my Horse Production illusion, and some brief looks at Sword Temples. To Ryan, The illusion you refer to was Jim Steinmeyers reworking of the Don Rose Doll House. It's very different from mine, but a very fine illusion. You used to be able to buy the plans for the Don Rose from Abbott's. Possibly you still can. Dennis Loomis

Ryan,
Dougs' DollHouse and the Pendragons' Theatre are similar. Perhaps Jim sells the plans or rights! Blair Marshall "ShaZzam!" P.S. Dennis' printed plans are very detailed.

Blair,
I've never seen the Pendragons illusion you mention. If Jim does sell the rights, they are probably out of my budget. ;-)

Someone correct me if wrong. The Pendragons use the prinicple with their mini-theatre illusion. Dog produced, and then Charlotte. Jim used two of his common principles here, and it is similar to Dougs' Doll House.

I believe that the Pendragons theatre is a little different... more like the Palequin Illusion than a Don Rose Doll House. While similar props, the position of the person inside is quite different.
I spent the entire afternoon yesterday recording Voice overs for the Doll House DVD. I'm going to call it "The Dennis Loomis Doll House... Plus!" because I'll also be showing performance footage and diagrams of my Horse Production Illusion, Sword Temple, and assorted other things. Charlie Reynolds called my old Doll House Workshop plans: "A complete course in illusion design and construction." I'm trying to make the new DVD live up to that. Those of you that have the old plans know that I did not grant permission for folks to use my presentation of the illusion. But that will change. Purchasers of the DVD are free to use it if they wish. I think it will be a "first" to have live performance footage of the illusions incorporated with building plans. In addition, I discuss the design concepts behind the equipment and what makes the illusions deceptive. There will even be one small apparatus prop shown and discussed: my version of the Bowl of Water Production. While based on some old principles, there's one new concept involved. Because that concept also relates to some of the illusions, I'm throwing in a discussion of the Bowl production. Dennis Loomis
