I've been spreading the gospel of this show since I first saw it a few months ago. For those of you who aren't "in the know" and who like sci fi:
There's a new version of the campy old show "Battlestar Galactica". The new version, however, is not campy. It IS awesome. It's on the SciFi channel every Friday evening at 10 p.m. and again at 1 a.m. The miniseries, which sets everything up, is available on DVD for purchase or rental. The first episode of the series is available online at http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/ (click the link at the top of the page. This friday will be episode number 4. I can't say enough good things about this series. It's the first show in years that I make time to watch every week. Paul

Just wondering on the timing of your post... the first season has been done with for about 2 months now... no new episodes until July....
So if you have seen the first season, there is nothing new to watch for another 3 months But be sure to catch up on the first season if you have missed it, it sure is great! |

I like the new Galactica ... Unfortunately in Canada it comes on at an awkward time (8:00 on Saturday evenings), and I'm just not motivated enough to tape it. But it's nicely done. I still can't get over Starbuck and Boomer as women, though, and I'll continue to hold that against the producers.

Daegs,
Precisely the reason I'm posting now is BECAUSE there are no new episodes for a few months. This is a good time for people to catch up on the re-runs if they're new to the show. If I'd told them to start watching the show a month ago they would have tuned in for the season finale and had no idea what was going on.

I'm an advid sci-fi fan and I've watched all of this series and I'm not excited about it as I thought I would be. Too much weird stuff, like Starbuck sleeping with Balitazar, (Who hear's voices all the time), Boomer being a Cylon, sleeping with the chief, etc. I just can't get into it. Same with Stargate Alantis, it's better than Battlestar, but I still like Stargate.

Stargate Atlantis is better than Battlestar?! I feel a nerd-fight coming on.

I personally love the new Battlestar Galactica series which has a very edgy feel to it. Good writing, good effects, excellent actors - especially the new commander Adama. I will admit to having a soft spot for the ORIGINAL Battlestar Galactica (I have the entire series on DVD) which was state of the art at the time (and very expensive to make) and is still a fun watch. It's is nice to know they have preserved much of the flavor of the original and even have a few of the original cast involved in the current production. Very cool.

In the early 80s, I think half the stage acts used the music from Battlestar Galactica.

I stopped watching Alantis too!
Like Steve Brooks , there is something about the 70's version I liked and the transition to the new one with me just didn't mess. No nerd-fight here, you win...

I like the new version a whole lot better than the original. But then I really hated the original series.
I like the new characters the actors and the scripts overall but really hate what they've done to the cylons. I wish that they could have made it more in keeping with the original concept where the Cylons were an alien insectoid race bent on our eradication.

I really like that there are no aliens in this version. I think the cyclons being the creation of mankind gives them a more plausible motivation for wanting to destroy humanity than some alien race that's just inexplicably evil. Plus, it makes the need for survival seem that much more critical. In the Battlestar Galactica universe, as far as we know, "we're it" in terms of intelligent life.

I too like the robot/droid/computer angle rather than some alien race.
Whether you like the original or not, it really was just thrown together to cash in on the sci-fi craze and wasn't a creative endevor. It had no plot, no backstory and the so called universe was full of contridictions and things that made no sense, because the writers were just banging things out episode by episode and weren't given time or the instructions to work out backstory or any technology, ect. I'm glad that the idea can be brought back and made into a viable story(the current version), with Star Trek now defunct and the last Star Wars looming on the horizon, I'm really glad sci-fi is actually able to churn out quality stuff in Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica to keep fans around and to keep the spirit alive. also, ***SPOILER FIRST SEASON FINALE**** Also, I like the possibility of the human/cylon hybrid race... it makes a lot of sense and will give the story and the relationship between the 2 species somewhere to GO to instead of the original. Plus, with all the other changes Earth is sure to be very very interesting.... This series is definatly looking up! |
