Frank and Muggle, you are right. As for the copycat debate, There are a lot of tricks that David Blaine has done on telivision. There are few left that he hasn't done in the "Street Magic" category so we are all going to be copy-cats. What these magicians have been doing is stuff you have to search for. In other words, it is like going into a magic shop. One of the first items you see is a rising card effect. You buy it, take it home, and it is the worst trick ever. The reason of this is because you didn't look hard enough. They keep all the best tricks on the back shelf where you never look. Blaine looked on this back shelf, now we must look on the back shelf also.

To protect the secret is very difficult in any trick. I have no problem with teaching other magicians. I think we need to teach other magicians, or there will be no more magicians left. To protect the secret, I don't know, maybe a password.

Let me just say that the Balducci is horrible. I've practiced and performed it for almost two years and I still haven't had one person not figure it out.

Hmm, Jluvlace, a lot of people like myself have had success using the Balducci method. Maybe you need to work on the angles or audience control. Or if it doesn't work for you, use a different method for levitation.

The only problem with it is that it can't be performed in a school setting. Smartmouths will move in front of you and blab the secret to everyone in school.

I only had sucess doing that levitation before David Blaine Street Magic started airing on TLC. I would get reactions like the ones from the Compton people on Street Magic. Now, people move in front of me or say how I do it. The last reaction I got from this trick was 36 weeks ago. It was in front of some people and they freaked out. It was at school. It was weird because they had seen David Blaine and didn't know how to do it. I did a few more tricks for them.

The very moment you get into position, people pick up on it's need for harsh-angles.m Let's not forget Blaine's team of t.v. video editors.

Hi all,
I disagree with the idea here that the Balducci is dead. It's the only levitation I know, but I'm very careful about using it because it is easy to foul up and as noted people will run around you to see what's going on. As a result, I tend to use it sparingly. Maybe it's because I haven't performed it for enough people, but no one has ever mentioned Blaine to me. I tend to do it when the sun is setting and it's a little darker, and I can get a little more distance between me and my audience, which helps with the angle problem. It's all in the mind, folks..... I also never perform it for folks who are expecting it. It seems to have a MUCH stronger impact if I just say, "Watch" rather than if they know it's coming. I have floored spectators on the street who freaked because they didn't know what I was going to do. Or, good for friends with the right story. |

Hmmmm. That could be either good or bad depending on how you look at it!
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

What if you learn some IT work? It could add to the levitation. If someone doubts you can levitate, then just do the Fearson Cigarette Float or do some magic with IT.
It kinda sounded weird for you to go from levitation to healed and seal. They are of two different animals! Why not stick to one type of magic and combine it to make a wonderful illusion. It's not like you have a stage show going, so it's not important to have variety. What you are trying to do is to justify your levitation. If you can levitate, why not levitate objects as well?! That should help make it more believeable. |

I'm not a fan of levitations, but after skimming the thread, I realized that perhaps the best way to counter the "Hey, I know how you did that -- you go like this ..." sort of spectator response is to create your own levitation -- and then keep it secret.
That's easier said than done, of course, but Criss Angel himself said something along these lines in his levitation DVD -- that he has several to choose from at any given moment and is always thinking about new ways to achieve the same effect in order to counter any difficulties or "perceptive" spectators. I'm no expert, but it seems like exceedingly good advice. Not to mention the fact that once you start "thinking magic" -- as opposed to "thinking about buying magic" -- you've probably done yourself a pretty big favor. |

The only way is to invent your own levitation or to buy some very expensive levitation beacuse expensive tricks are longer a secret...
The first idea is better so think think think...

I don't know much about law, but would it be possible to start a petition so people cant reaveal a copyrited magic trick on the internet with out the permision of the creator, because I think that is where they find this out.

And I am not talking about cards. Check out Gregory Wilsons Stuff. Or Jay Sankeys for that matter. Also, a decent Ring on Rope, or even a good Rope Routine is still good stuff, that will KILL. Even Coin Stuff like 3 Fly will do the thing. So there is no need to be a copy cat. |

Hey, there is one thing you should know!
There is certain time and place for some illusions. YOU CAN NOT USE THIS IN SO PUBLIC PLACE where the croud is very large. For smaller groups, it works fantasticly. There are allways possibility to expose a secret whatever the trick is that you are performing. Should we stop performing at all? Anyway, use Balducci and use it often, but use it when you can use it! |

My two cents on levitations is that unless blaine strikes again on king rising it will be your best non-gimmick levitation, another idea as fazie said would be to inovate a new idea or a good and cheap book that self lev is the subject is andrew mayne's touching the sky.just my two cents worth on levitations.
