In the 1970s mentalism wasn't the beckoning road it is today. How is it that you decided to turn from magic to mentalism? Was it a performance you witnessed, or was it the result of introspection and analysis?

My interest in mentalism developed from reading about it. Conceptually, it appealed to me more strongly than other types of magic (at least in terms of my doing, rather than observing). At the time I began in the profession, I had never seen a mentalist work live, and had seen relatively little on television. In the 1970s, there weren't many mentalists working, either here or abroad. So, there was no established niche within show business. Hence, I had to carve out territory...
