The above description is quite long and reads like your typical dealer ad copy. Well, that's because it was taken directly off the Hocus Pocus website and is ad copy. You see, they are the only dealer you can get this thru, as they have a total exclusive deal with Paul Kozak.

That said, after working with this gimmick for the last few weeks, I've come to the conclusion that I can't argue with what is stated above.
But wait, (before I get ahead of myself) let me explain how I came to my opinion regarding this particular offering.

I can recall seeing a magician do the salt pour around 1969 and for the life of me I can't remember who the performer was. In any case, I was mystified by the entire experience and remember returning home and filling my hands with salt (my mother was none too happy) and trying to duplicate what I had seen happen on the stage. Needless to say, I was not able to perform the trick that I witnessed and in addition spent the rest of the afternoon sweeping salt from my mother's kitchen floor. Mom was now happy but I was still puzzled for the next several years. The only thing I had learned from the whole experience was never to pour salt all over my mother's floor.

Many years later I finally learned the basic idea behind the salt pour, but had neither the experience or the opportunity to perform this effect on my own. However, as time passed, I eventually was able to aquire several different salt pour gimmicks (as funds permitted) including the models made famous by the likes of Paul Fox, Presley Guitar, Jim Riser and a few lesser known manufacturers. Though I practiced several different routines and tried the various gimmicks, I never included the salt pour in my own performances. I'm not sure why either, but somehow I always managed to find something else that I felt would play better for an audience. Looking back I now wish that I would have used this in my act, especially since very few magicians perform this effect anymore.

Having said all that, let's take a look at what you'll get should you decide to take the plunge and make the large investment required to own this bad boy, shall we?

When the box arrives at your doorstep (or post box), inside you'll find a couple items. The gimmick and a DVD. The gimmick is spun from solid brass, is flesh colored and is actually quite hefty. In fact, my first impression was it would be impossible for me to make use of this due to the size of my hands, which by the way are on the small side. It seemed to me that no matter how I held this thing it just was not going to work. Further, I wasn't convinced that I would be able to use this in the real world and not get busted. That aside, the thing that did impress me was just how much salt one could get inside, it baffles the mind says I.

Once I played with the gimmick for a good half an hour, I decided to go ahead and watch the DVD. Boy am I glad I did! Mr. Kozak changed my view about the gimmick almost instantly. I watched Mr. Kozak's live performance and could not believe how long the pour lasted, and then to have the final huge load appear was just incredible. The best part is that I'm now actually excited about this effect again. It kind of brings back childhood memories. Shh! - don't tell mom.

The DVD is done well and includes footage of Kozak performing his routine in Las Vegas before an audience and a step by step breakdown of everything you need to know in order to use this item in your own performances.

Paul starts by discussing the gimmick, its design, and the features of such a design. He then goes on to explain every detail of how to use this bad boy and addresses the question: Are my hands too small? Trust me, unless you're an infant, your hands are not too small to learn how to manipulate this piece of equipment. If I can, anyone can. Rest assured that Paul covers all the details, including stealing the gimmick right in front of your audiences noses without them being wise to your trickery.

Next Paul starts talking about the various conditions one might encounter, the type of clothes you should wear, stage backgrounds and other considerations that frankly, you might not have thought about until Paul addresses them.

Then Paul continues with the subject of SALT MANAGEMENT. This my friend is VERY important, believe me. This section of the disc talks about everything from the best kind of salt shaker to use to how one goes about getting the most salt into the gimmick, the best brand of salt to use and more importantly, why. Little topics like this is where Mr. Kozak's twenty plus years of experience is a real benefit to us young folks and it is obvious Paul really knows his stuff.

Finally, Paul discusses the routine proper. How to prepare, where to start, and why. He also goes over performing from the pockets as opposed to working from a table or bag (the latter is seen in the DVD performance section). Again, the knowledge contained in these topics is virtually priceless and one of the reasons an effect like this is worth every cent.

In that light, should you spend your hard earned cash on purchasing this item? Well, it all depends. Is the salt pour something you can see yourself performing? If you answered yes, then I say buy this bad boy now, it's worth the asking price and then some. The gimmick is well made and will last a lifetime, the DVD includes everything one needs to master the gimmick and even gives you permission to use the routine, music and patter that Paul uses, though I would recommend you come up with your own presentation.
