Ben Nye makes a nice assortment of stage effects including blood. Their blood is also edible, which could make for more fun in your routine. I haven't tried this type with needle through arm, so I don't know if its a quick cleanup or not.

Karo syrup and red food coloring (with a few drops of blue) works good for stage work but it might not be ideal for close-up. The blood is a little too translucent and ends up being a sticky mess in short time.

Kryolan is probably the best product on the market. They say its washable, but be sure to do several rehersals first just in case.

Doing a google search will come up with several receipes.

Chocolate syrup is also often used, but more so for dried and coagualted blood effects.
To add a note above to Khopris's excellent suggestions, "Kryolan" is not a typo for Krylon, which I've seen confused before. Krylon makes paint, Kryolan is a theatical makeup mfgr. Other makeup manufacturers are Bob Kelly, Mehron, Alcone, and Steins, to name but a few, if you want to search around, but the two Khopri listed are considered the best.
Graftobian is a supplier which makes "Magic" blood, aka A/B Blood, which is a mixture that appears only when activated, as well as blood capsules, packets, etc.
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

A while back, Haunted Attraction Magazine published an article on making stage blood, with about a half-dozen or so recipies. The article is available online:
