Having performed in competitions my whole magical carreer, (mostly stage) I often found there was a lack of ressources for stage performers. I am not talking about rope tricks, illusions or any type of box trick.

I mean the classical music act often performed to music that WINS competitions and make you a better magician (creativity, routining, timing etc). I was thinking of putting a huge book together with the help and contributions of our favorite stage magicians, chapters would include:

Costume changes,Classical music acts,Productions.Vanishes,Trabsformations,Fire and pyro,Music,Costume and character,Manipulator accesories, Tables/stands/setting, Animals, Steals, Ditches, The classics with a twist, Life savers, Routining etc.

What do you guys think? There is SO little on this type of stage magic and after all the years I spent collecting ideas from other magicians and myself I think it would be nice to combine them all in one book with some contributions from our favorite magicians. What do you think?

I like the idea, as Jeff McBride's routines like this were one of the main reasons I got into magic.

Sounds great to me. I was just thinking about the lack of such resources myself. I look forward to the finished product.

Hi Eric, your idea is fabulous. It is a huge project to undertake and that may be a reason something like this wasn't already done. But I believe so many would be willing to come together to help and make this happen it might be a dream coming true.

Why not take the next step on your idea? If you need any help let me know.
Best,

Great idea. I also wondered a lot about the lack of material available for this type of magic.

Well!!! At least you know you are generating interest!

I basically agree with everyone. That is a great idea, and it certainly would be a book that I would want to buy. You could probably complete this with a companion DVD to illustrate some concepts!

Have a good day!

Eric,
Part of the view to reply ratio is likely due to the absence of a specific question on your part. You presented an idea and as you can see from the responses you got...the idea is embraced and help is offered. However, without you having asked for particular things, I think folks are reading the post, seeing the supportive comments and thinking..."well,cool, I hope they do that." I think you have your answer and now you need to request more detailed info from the various specialists among us here in the Café. Be encouraged! Go forward!

ERIC,

I love this idea, this book would be an all time great seller, I like to add something to all this too seeing your looking for responce as to how we feel, lets start by saying I put together my show myself that took me to the stage to compeat after trial and error you learn to make something that's never been done, it becomes you yours,,,your personilty like Mc Bride hes know for the masks,,and Fantasico for the canes,,and so on. Now after you come up with a winning routine and you a big name who takes your show and developes, it and makes it more then it was ,,,your manager does your illusion designer,,so on and so on. Now that's something many here might know actually takes place, so my suggestion here is a chapter with veiws and comments from stage managers the things that they stuggle with everyday that puts your ratings always on top. Just an idea, but I know my managers hard at it everyday taking my ideas and his and coming up with new and exciting materials to add to my show. SO THERES MY FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

But it is Eric Leclerc idea and mission. If you make an outline, I believe you will see the 50 volume set you have a set to produce for yourself. At the cost of heavy books today. You might want to get the pricing from some publishers 1st.

Many of the silent acts were never set to print or video. Many acts are totally original with the performer. If you consider the Jeff McBride "Magic on Stage" video series, can you put any of these acts into written form, or as an encyclopedia format are you thinking about only give a general outline of the secret and routine.

Many questions and ways to approach such a book.
