Thanks for the kind words on DreamSigns chaps, it's much appreciated and inspiring me to continue to share and write more. As fantastic as the ebook format is for instant delivery it would be great to have DreamSigns in print, so if anybody has any contacts or help they can offer in this respect it would be very welcome! (Just message me!)
As for Impromptu work - there is a little gem in Sean Fields "X-Rated" book, called the "Metronome revelation" It's not an effect as such, but a wonderful piece of genuine psychology that can be used on almost any revelation (the whole book is full of well thought out effects - Seans thinking is very creative.) I really like the "Metronome revelation" not only for it's simplicity, but it's very much in the realm of genuine psychological mentalism - which is what I really love, it's dangerous and can fail every now and then... but it keeps you on your toes and feels like a genuine experience for both you and the participant (because it is.) Sean himself says it "won't set the world on fire" but I feel he is underestimating the strength of these little touches. Using psychology in mentalism, for the methodology rather than just the patter is a interesting if not risky path to take, but one that can give great rewards if you put the effort in. This is why I wrote DreamSigns, it's dangerous mentalism, but at the same time a genuine psychological skill - something that will hopefully keep your eyes open to the thousands of possibilitys for "real" mentalism that are waiting to be discovered... |

I have a completly impromptu effect that Dunninger invented and did through out his life called the "tri-Cycle". It takes a bit of nerve...but, dang...it's a good one. Simple, direct, to the point and good Mentalism.
If ur interested send me an e-mail and I'll send you the method, no worries. ~Rick~

Banachek’s Ring of Truth (similar effects are in Theater of the Mind and Messing With Minds)
Fake hypnosis tricks - There are a few on ETMMM. There are also the (old?) effects where a spectator’s fingers come together or he can’t stand up while your finger is on his forehead. These aren’t necessarily my favorite effects, but they do meet the criteria Impromptu prediction effects using Magician’s Choice or the Pateo force. Positive/Negative is a good example. If you are willing to carry some change and a dollar bill you can do: Serial Number Divination – With a dollar Bill Switch. Sankey has a nice one on “22 Blows to the Head”. Little Jackpot Coins – From Theater of the mind. I love this trick. Rick. . . I am very interested in tri-Cycle. I will email you. Thanks, Elliott Oh yeah . . . You can also perform a cardless mental yarn from memory. Banachek's "Number Reversal" almost meets your criteria (the spector may need paper or a calculator, but you don't need anything. Thanks, Elliott Oops. I meant "spectator". I doubt a spector has much use for paper. |

Hi, I've been reading with great interest the posts about covert hypnosis and this is something I am very interested to learn. Firstly I have no experience of hypnosis at present and so am interested in being pointed in the direction of a good book/dvd or training course (I'm in North East England). I've been trying to research this area for some time as its something I'd really like to incorporate and develop into my performance but have thus far been unsuccessful (finding only therapy courses for x thousand pounds).
Effects I'd like to achieve are knowing what word a spectator is thinking of without them saying anything, this is I presume the method but please correct me if I'm wrong. That and making people immobile, temporarily of course. Lastly I don't expect a great expose on here as this would be unrealistic I'd merely like a helping hand in being directed towards somewhere, thing or one that can help me. Thanks for your time, Ant |

Ant,
McGill's New Encyclopedia is a must-have for many reasons, and does include a brief section on Waking Hypnosis. There another thread on this form called "Waking Hypnosis" (see: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&35) in which a couple of people recommend a DVD called "Amazing Power of Waking Hypnosis" by Bill O'Connell which may help. (I've not seen in yet.) In that same thread I mention that I tried to find the DVD on O'Connell's website, but instead found a videoape called C.O.V.ER.T. Hypnosis, which sounds pretty cool, but I don't know what exactly is on it (although it sounds like it goes over a lot of NLP fundamentals; I don't know if there's more to it or not). Search around the forum for threads on Derren Brown, NLP, Wonder Words, etc. And if you're into DB, check out this thread & the linked video in which Derren demos a pure NLP technique: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=111530&forum=15. It's really a brief therapy-type technique in which he guides someone through a process of moving & changing the pictures she makes in her mind, but he presents it as neither NLP nor hypnosis, he just says tells the viewer: "Do this..." It's not quite the same as the stuff he does on his shows (because it has a different intended result) but reading his books, and interviews apart from his TV shows might give you some hints about what is possible... |

Since they are on cd rom these days no one seems to want this old technology... if anyone is interested in getting the information on old fashioned cassette tapes contact me ... they are very reasonable. doc

Chaldean, I've ordered McGill's 'Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism' today and should have it midweek. Hopefully it'll help me determine which methods/specialties are the most suitable for the effects I hope to achieve, I'll take a look at the Waking Hypnosis thread to though.

Chaldean,
I am told that Gerald F. Kein is one best trainers in hypnosis. He has a waking hypnosis DVD along with other training material. - http://www.omnihypnosis.com/waking.htm If you want to learn waking hypnosis/NLP while becoming a ladies man, I heard Ross Jefferies, author of “Master the art of Speed Seduction” has a course that can be applied to sales as well, sort of expensive. -http://www.speedseduction.net/products/RJ87.asp Supposedly, Kenrick E. Cleveland is one of the Jedi Knights of persuasion and mind control techniques. I am saving up for his course as they are sort of expensive. Go to his articles section, they are rather interesting and informative without the psychco-babble. While in the articles section, scroll down toward the bottom of the page and listen or download to the Mike Litman. -http://www.maxpersuasion.com/showpage.php?session=&content=articles I hope that helps. Ant, I hope you enjoy the book. For anyone interested in stage-style (and "all the world's a stage," right?) hypnosis, it's a real goldmine, although for some of what you wish to achieve you'll surely have to track down other resources.
One of the things that's so fascinating about DB is trying to figure out what is really going on during his shows, since there's often a disconnect (or misdirection) between what he says he's doing and the effects he actually achieves in performance. Or so it seems. There are endless debates about what's really going on. How much hypnosis is he using? (I've heard that one reason that Derren might not explicitly say he's doing hypnosis most of the time is that in the UK, it would him up to greater legal liability.) DB aside, there are so many strange, profound, wild and wonderful things that *can* be achieved with hypnosis, so learn what you can. Natural Mystic is a very good mind reader, since I was going to suggest that you cannot go wrong with any of Gerald Kein's instructional videos from Omni Hypnosis. He one of the best teachers in the world. And I consider myself one of "Jerry's Kids." Even though I own probably 80% of the Omni video libary, I seem to have missed the one on Waking Hypnosis, so thanks, NM, for pointing it out. It's been mentioned on other threads, but if you can get a hold of Trance-Formations by Bandler & Grinder at a reasonable price, go for it, as it's one of the best NLP books around. All of my teachers/mentors in hypnotic influence have emphasized the importance of experiencing trance for yourself. So you get a sense of what's really possible, and so you understand where you're taking your subject/client/audience/influencee. Find some kind of quality live training as soon as you can that won't break your bank account. Or even someone local to practice with. But you're wise to do sufficient research first, so you don't drop a lot of money on a training which isn't going to be what you want. PM me if you have other questions that you'd feel more comfortable asking that way. *** NM, thanks, for the other suggestions as well. |

Thanks very much everybody, as I said earlier my copy of the 'Encyclopia of Stage Hypnotism' is winging itself to me as we speak but I'm somewhat sceptical of my ability to be able to perform hypnosis from just reading a book. Am I being overly sceptical or do you really need a real life person to show you the ropes?
From reading the Waking Hypnosis thread it does seem that this is probably the way I'd like to go, when I've enough experience that is, however I hope I wouldn't be exclusive in this and would still do some of the more traditional effects too. I've had a look at Gerald Kein's website and his Waking Hypnosis DVD does look very interesting. However I'm going to wait until reading McGill's book first before buying but in the meantime has anyone had any experience ordering from his site, especially those living in the UK, reliability, delivery times, costs etc? Again thanks to everybody for your suggestions, time and patience. Ant Oh and the cheapest I've so far found Trance-Formations is £60 second hand and £75 new both paperback, the hardback is upwards of £80 second hand. |
