Do people actually read these things?
I popped into the (Orange) County (CA) Recorder's office this afternoon to file a fictitious name statement. On the wall behind the counter were a number of those irritating inspirational posters that seem to spring up spontaneously in government offices, learning institutions, and so on; you know the type: INGENUITY, PERSEVERANCE, COOPERATION, and the like. Those at the Recorder's office were nicely framed as if someone had taken particular care in their selection and placement. To the left was one that read TEAMWORK across the top; in the center was a particularly fine photograph of the Great Wall of China, and at the bottom it read: "Many minds. Many hands. One goal." To the right was one that read COMMUNICATION across the top; in the center was a beautiful photograph of a stone bridge across a stream in a woods, and at the bottom it read: "Build bridges, not walls." ;) |

This is just the next wave of mass-marketed schmaltz for bovine America to shovel into their gaping cud-holes. These posters are replacing the ones with the kitten hanging from a branch and it says, "Hang in there!" Get it? "Hang in there!" Because the kitten is hanging! Har har har! Hopefully these insipid examples of modern-age bad taste will eventually go the way of acid-washed jeans.

There are some beautiful parodies of these motivational posters out there. Really funny stuff.

Isaw a bunch of those posters in the waiting room of the maechanics shop where I used to take my car. Later I talked to a mechanic who had worked ther and quit. The store had a written contract with thier emplyees regarding how to jack up the prices and provide unneeded service. Just goes to show you.
I still like the posters though

Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |
