Do any of you guys do anything with parakeets? If so, I would love to hear about it.

Ben... I do not work with livestock, but fondly remember Jack Kodell's amazing act with budgees during my teens.

I came across this site http://www.bigbandsandbignames.com/maewest.html that quotes April 30, 1956 "Jack Kodell, a newcomer, should become the talk of the town for his magic act. A debonair chap in red, even to his shoes, he extracts parakeets from the air, blue ones, green ones, and a tiny yellow one. The latter watches, from a post on the magician's neck, the master do tricks with a rope. When, by magic, he makes it stiffen like a post, the bird blithely climbs to the top. This is a great act."

Interestingly, today as I was preparing for a children's show and pre-creating a quantity of balloon sculptures, it was amazing to watch our pure white parakeet "get turned on", well it sure seemed that way watching him, and interact with his plastic bird companions.

It seems the squeeking sound of the sculpturing has an awesome effect on him every time we start making the creations.

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this tendency with their feathered friends.

Is a parakeet the same as a Budgerigar (Australian Grass Parrot)? Budgies are great but are more nervous than some other small parrots (like peachfaces - nothing much seems to faze them). But the budgie is available in a variety of colours (they are not inclined to be faithful to just one partner) and small.

BTW, I just saw a local veterinarian giving a warning on TV that avocados are poisonous to parrots - fruit, leaves and wood!
