I've just joined.
I'm working on human pincushion skills to include in a new act.
I hope someone can advise me on;
1) health & safety issues,
2) the best needles or other instruments to use,
3) where to buy such needles and other sundry equipment.
Any and all help appreciated.
Sincerely, Martin.

Are you looking for advice on 'the real thing' or creating the illusion of a huamn pincushion.

If you are looking for advice on how to do 'the real thing' and the best way to go about it, my advice is don't.

Very good advice indeed. All sorts of infections are likely. And it's gonna hurt. A lot.

cheers

Pearcing supply house should do the trick. And while shoving a needle through the skin on your arm doesn't hurt past the first second as you start the process, pushing it through is the hard part. My friend did it and had to end up using a pair of plyers to get the needle in and out through about a 1/2 inch fold of skin on the forearm.

Pushing a needle from the inside of your mouth outwards will also lack the pain of doing it from the outside in. Pull your bottom lip down with your fingers and stick a needle into the skin below the lip area, you won't feel it because the nerves aren't there or at least in the same numbers or configuration as the rest of the body. That is my first choice to stick a needle if you want to do a human pin cushion.

I appreciate your concerned advice guys.

Alas, I am still determined to proceed as planned.

I intend to pierce my facial cheek as part of my new act. I have consulted with a doctor regarding nerves, muscles, scarring, sterilising and preparing all necessary equipment.

I am not a masochist, nor do I want to injure myself. It is with that in mind that I first posted this topic.

I will continue. I hope your feedback continues also...

Cheers, Martin. Smile

Martin,

I saw you posted on Slims sight.
You wil probably get fewer squirmers from that and more information.

I have seen the act you are asking about before several times. Once performed by a old man sticking a sewing needle through his bicep skin. Very little sterile conditions in this venue.

I recommend you getting in touch with a pro in this field to guarantee your safty.

Don't listen to sidewalk torture kings.

Sillily,

If you are in NY in April '07 there is an advanced sideshow skills class at Coney Island. They will be showing this skill along with several others, taught by veterans in the field.
