I am The Great Scot, Bardic Magician.
I call myself a Bardic Magician because I use history, stories, folklore, and folk tales as the basis for my routines when I do my magic.

Dressed in Scottish clothing of the period (made by my wife), I primarily do Renaissance period magic at Renaissnace and Celtic festivals, though I am branching out into being a generalist magician.

I attempt to use period props whenever possible, such as wood, glass, ceramic, or metal, instead of plastic. This means that I have to make my own props or find antique magic that I can use. I will substitute a modern method of acheiving the effect, i.e. IT instead of hair, but it cannot be seen by the audience (and shouldn't be seen anyway).

I have been researching medieval and renaissance magic for the past 2 years in order to make my performances as authentic as possible. I am amazed at how many of the tricks that were around hundreds of years ago will still amaze people today.

I would consider myself a hybrid of a parlour magician and a street magician though at some events I strictly do street magic. I am looking at adding some illusions to my show, once I find some that are appropriate, or can be made so, and I would like to try some black art, the poor magician's way of doing illusions.

To learn more about me, visit my website at http://www.greatsotmagic.com.

If anyone would like to discuss the above with me, please do so.

Happy Halloween (a great Celtic Holiday, and my birthday)!

Welcome aboard, Great Scot.
So it might be said that you do magic with "a deck of bards"!
(Well, it might if I wanted a claymore jammed in my ear!)

Hi Great Scott!

I checked out your site - What an awesome thing you do! Yet another reason why I'd like to be in VT. Sounds like you've hit upon a great theme and are succesfully pulling it off. Be sure to let us know when the emporium is up.

My compliments to Veda, too - her illuminated pages look gorgeous (the tailoring ain't bad, either).

Look forward to your insight!

I like that, can I steal, er, use it?

Speaking of claymores and ears, I am thinking about getting a dagger head chest or swword basket and use either dirks or claymores to stick through.
