Good morning chaps/chapess’s

I hope everybody in the UK is having a good bank holiday and people everywhere else are having a good day too.

I was wondering if anybody could recommend a good hypnosis training DVD? I have read the encyclopaedia of hypnosis, which is excellent btw. I know going to a seminar or course is the best thing to do, but the cash flow is not that great at the moment. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Cheers
Ben

Gambituk1 ehehehehe...you will not believe it but the same happenned to me...well, that's magic! Its a boring movie but it has a point:how something small that can happen for a moment can change your whole life...Basically the movie shows all the time two scenes-what would happened to her life if she would not miss the train and if the doors were closing and she was still out...
After all I did not watch the end since I fell asleep as well!!!LOL
Don't wait for the perfect moment...Take a moment and make it perfect!!!

I have found The Professional Art of Stage Hypnosis The Course and The Secrets of Professional Stage Hypnosis The DVD By a Jonathan Royle for £60 (special offer!!) but I have done a search for him on this forum and I have notice some negative things said about him. Is he really that bad??
He claims after doing the course and watching the DVD you will be able to hypnotise people?
What do you guys think?

I've also heard very bad things about Royle. I know for a fact that his ethics are very bad (sells copied works) and apparently has abused his position with subjects under hypnosis. I wouldn't support someone with these morals, even if their teaching work did happen to be useful.

Well I have the same question. I don't feel positive things with Royle...its a litle bit to much marketing. But anybody could recommend a good hypnosis training DVD?

1908, I agree the moral thread of the story is excellent Smile

Ceeswing, Daffyd and Sickpuppy,

It would be unfair of me to disagree with any comments you make on here, if you know what I mean.

By the way, he does post on here under another name, so maybe if he has the B**** he will post a reply, in his REAL name, not one of his 5 (that I know of) false names.....

Okay chaps and chapesses (to use the vernacular), soapbox time from the other side of the pond...!

If one is going to learn hypnosis, for heaven's sake, do it right and get professional training! I simply cannot stress this enough. Hypnosis is a high-level communicative process that deals with a very wide range of behavioral modalities that makes Kentonism look like kinderspiel.

You will not learn how to deal with things like abreactions, phobic responses, misunderstood suggestions, non-directed triggering, spontaneous regression, catatonia or any of a number of other, admittedly rare (but still common enough) phenomena that you WILL eventually run into while performing. If you do not know what these terms mean, then I have further proven my point.

Organizations like the National Guild of Hypnotists (which has several trainers in the UK and worldwide) offer substantial training programs, as do the International Medical and Dental Hypnosis Association and any of the member groups of the Congress of Professional Hypnosis Organizations (COPHO).

Please do NOT rely on weekend wonder training from people who crank out these "learn to hypnotize anyone, anywhere and get them to do anything, instantly!" programs.

Ask yourself: Did you learn to become a professional level mentalist or magician in a weekend? What makes you think you can do it in a weekend with something as complex as hypnosis? Let's face it, Mark Lewis was one of the folks who put out one of these programs and several of the current crop of video courses seem to have borrowed liberally from his not-so-original tape. Is that where you want to come from?

The safest way to learn is in a supervised situation, where you can get the feedback you need and the help you might need, should anything happen that you aren't ready to deal with.

Get the clinical certification first. Many insurance companies are now requiring one before they will issue performance liability coverage these days anyway. Then take one of the hypnosis show classes, Like the one Ormond McGill & Jerry Valley teach. But please! Don't go the weekend-wonder route or the vidiot route! Hypnosis isn't like working with a deck of cards and you never know what you are going to run into out there.

I'm only speaking from 36 years' experience as a stage hypnotist, working all over the US, Canada, the Caribbean and a few gigs in Europe, so take the advice for what it's worth. I'm also teaching the free class at the National Guild's convention this year on Safety for Stage Hypnotists and Lecturers - a first for them. More info at http://www.ngh.net, just hit the link for the convention.

So, let me step off this soap box and return from the Land of the Rant...

That's better...! Smile

Lee,

"Don't go the weekend-wonder route or the vidiot route!"

I'am not interested in stage hypnotism. I recently purchased a waking hypnosis DVD from Jerry Kein to enhance my script and overall performance. What do you think about Jerry Kein DVDs?

I am tending to stop myself from posting too much on hypnosis threads on here of late, indeed I requested a post be removed recently as I thought I had accidently posted "too much" information. As an ericksonian hypnotherapist, maybe I assumed a certain level of knowledge and that it would not be misused, maybe I was wrong.

What I will say is Listen to Lee. Please.

Lee, I will PM you if that's okay.

Gambit: Thanks for the PM.

As far as the individual in the UK offering the course (if it can be called that) - for those of you considering it - RUN, do not walk for the nearest exit! If you have any doubts, watch one of the shows that the individual in question does and ask yourself - "would I want to be treated that way?" Not me. No way, no how! And if someone attemptd to, they would probably wind up missing teeth and be singing soprano.

Natural Mystic: Gerry Kein is a colleague of mine, an NGH multiple award winner and a superb instructor. While I am not famailar with the specific product, I can say that he is highly qualified to instruct and would be fairly assured that it would be good for helping you with script development for your show.

Daffyd: While I have no direct experience with Jonathan Royale's work, I have heard some very unflattering things from some sources that I consider quite credible. As I noted, nothing takes the place of in-person instruction from someone with good credentials. Mr. Royale is NOT accredited by the NGH, the IMDHA, the ASCH or the BHA to the best of my knowledge. My recommendation would be to find someone who is and train with them, in person. It may cost a bit more, but the quality is thus insured to a much higher standard, the credentials much mroe respected and there is no question about your background should someone ask who you have trained under.

Just my tuppence worth. Smile I hope it helps!

There are three main types of hypnosis used.
1) Stage Hypnosis, which is mainly based on peer pressure.
2) Hypnotherapy, which is actually more about clinical and psycho- analysis (although some therapists are extremely unhappy to admit it)than hypnosis.
and
3)Medical Hypnosis, which is not about hypnotherapy in neither a) an analysis sense nor b) suggestion therapy. For me this is the one that proves there is an actual 'state'of hypnosis.
Now then, that's enough. I suggest you now begin the search.

Royale's work is so prolific around the internet (under more than one name!), I imagine he's doing very nicely at the mo!

I have a few of his books which did get results and helped me get started but I have also heard lots of bad press about his ethics since. What I learnt did the trick but I wouldn't want to base a career on wha I know at the moment.

I guess I'm trying to say that Royal's material certainly did get me the results I wanted, but if I wanted to make a career out of it, I would definately take more courses.
