The categories were created for several upcoming items, but are naturally being utilized for any items listed at the moment. The Magic Bakery is a small venture with a multitude of projects in the works, so the initial setup was made to handle all possible future expansion.

Hey Steve... Thanks for the PM to remind me of the DVD's release. I just ordered and, based on the buzz, I'm really looking forward to this. Great spread on Reed in the new Genii, too! Anyone without a subscription really ought to find a copy. He contributed some terrific material.

I have David Roth's DVD where he teaches palming. Would you still recommend this one?
Thanks

Magiguy, thanks for the support. I think you'll like what this disc has to offer. Regarding the material in Genii, I have to agree - stellar stuff.
Andy the cardician, If you are still having problems learning the classic palm or want some great pointers on learning the muscle pass, then yes - this DVD may well be what the doctor ordered. Reed covers it all!

As someone who is an absolute beginner at coin magic I'm probably representative of the target group for this release. Here are my thoughts as an outsider looking in:
I think that it is great that there is material being released which goes in depth into certain areas, but reading about this it doesn't immediately grab me as something I would run out and buy. The reason for this is that I feel that muscle training and that sort of thing requires the patience to practice and practice and practice. I don't see what a video will be able to do about my laziness unless it's like a workout video with music and motivational speeches. The videos I need to improve my palms are mindless action movies that I can follow half way while my hands are working and grinding away. So far I don't know a single actual coin trick, but I do have a pretty good classic palm. I found it fairly easy to learn. Having read this thread I have now for the first time tried it with two coins, which also works, allthough not quite as securely (or silently). What I mean is that as someone who is about ready to go out and buy a DVD or two, I'm not sure that I see any reasons why I should select this product and not any of the many other books or DVDs by for instance Roth or Ammar that promises several palms and tricks for my money. Obviously I don't mean to be critical towards this DVD itself. I haven't seen it after all, and many people who seem quite honorable seem to praise it. That is enough to convince me of it's quality. What I mean is that it could perhaps be presented more alluringly on the web page. As far as I can see, there are no flashy hooks in the form of video clips or photos that will tease someone like me to buy it. Magic shopping is a case of priority. And the items that seem either most tempting or most neccessary will be plucked first.

I think it's VERY refreshing to see a DVD or effect sell itself on it's merits rather than the over-hype that we see almost everywhere we turn.
A very big kudos to offering this DVD to the magic community without sounding like a used car salesman trying to get the last junk car off the lot. I hope other dealers follow this example and put out quality material with minimal hype rather than sub-par material with tons of hype. |

Thanks for the feedback - I'll try and make comment on a few items.
The Amazing Noobini said; "I think that it is great that there is material being released which goes in depth into certain areas, but reading about this it doesn't immediately grab me as something I would run out and buy" Then perhaps this isn't something that you would benefit from and that's okay with me. The Amazing Noobini said;"What I mean is that it could perhaps be presented more alluringly on the web page. Hmmm...Well, I suppose if I operated a high-end discount internet store with the same old stuff everyone else had, then I would agree with you. Jazzy graphics, cutting edge music, state-of-the-art video demos and of course boasting to have the lowest prices on the web would all be a necessary evil of trying to beat the competition and convince folks that it is in their best interest to buy the latest magical wonder from me as opposed to somebody else. Now, I'm not saying that you won't see us promote our items, send items off for magazine reviews, etc. That's all part of making customers aware that something is available and providing them with accurate information. We would quickly go out of business if nobody was aware of our products. However, I believe The Magic Bakery website to be both attractive and functional. The written descriptions accurately describe our products, our prices are fair and our customers seem to be happy thus far. Finally, I really don't consider The Magic Bakery to be in competition with PENGUIN MAGIC, HOCUS-POCUS or anyone else for that matter. Naturally, in the purist sense we may be. After all, folks can purchase magic anywhere they like and I certainly advise people to help support brick and mortar shops whenever possible. But what it really comes down to is this: We produce high quality DVDs which I feel are on a level with anything else on the market. If the subject matter of the disc interests you, great. If not, that's okay too. At this point I don't see any reason that I need flashy graphics and hooks to convince you to purchase the Reed McClintock's Classic Palming with Coins DVD. Why? You are either interested and you buy it from us (or another dealer), or you're not and you move on. Ibd1Mon99 said; "I think it's VERY refreshing to see a DVD or effect sell itself on it's merits rather than the over-hype that we see almost everywhere we turn" Thanks for the kind words. Like I said earlier, we either have something you like or we don't. Folks can always go buy magic at seemingly a zillion other places. BUT - you can only purchase Reed McClintock's Classic Palming with Coins from us. Having said all that, I appreciate all the comments and thoughts. The Amazing Noobini, I realize you are only trying to help and were simply making a few observations and suggestions. In that light, I sincerely hope you take my answers in the positive spirit that they have been presented in.

Not sure, but Noobini's post could be the first one I've read where someone actually requests hype.

Haha. I didn't mean to request hype. Actually I'm so much against false advertising that even though people usually describe me as a designer and photographer or filmmaker, I am mostly unemployed because I simply cannot find work that I find ethically acceptable.
I was merely attempting to offer a look into the thoughts of someone (like me) who stumbles onto the product page. I wouldn't consider video clips or images which will help the buyer get a glimpse into what he/she is getting as hype. Not any more that a string of quotes praising a product anyway. More information offers a better basis for choice. This is the exact opposite as hype in my opinion. But I did phrase that quite badly. Mostly I was just thinking out aloud as I was pondering on wether to buy this or not.

Wow! I ordered on Friday and received it on Monday. Pretty impressive, but not nearly as impressive as the DVD itself. Like many of the others who have posted before me, I found numerous tips for correcting years of bad habits. The introduction with Reed and Curtis, the ingenious "why didn't I think of that" practice tool(s), the sections on multiple palming and various size coins, the fact that I finally pulled off the muscle pass in less than an hour, after having invested plenty of time before trying to master it on my own. All of this, and more (I haven't even mentioned the special features) make this a "must buy" DVD, even if you think that you already have the classic palm mastered. Regardless of your experience level you will surely find valuable tips and tools here, and will never again buy into the adage about not taking any Wooden Nickels (in fact, I'd like to find some more).
Thanks for a great product, Steve! I'm very satisfied with my purchase. |

Thanks everyone, glad to know all that hard work has paid off! Best of all, the information provided is being put to good use.
By the way, regarding Wooden Nickels - every DVD we produce includes a collectors Wooden Nickel inside, designed specifically for that particular title / disc. You can think of it as the prize that you get inside.

I would just like to thank all of you for your comments pertaining to this DVD. Also thanks to all of you that have purchased this DVD so far, I am glad to have brought something to the table to make the magic we all do that much better and easier. Mr. Brooks worked very hard on this project and did it with stellar results. Thank you Mr.Brooks.
I am not able to get on the Café very often due to a very hectic schedule, but I felt it important to express my sincere appreciation to all of you, for all of your support and comraderie on this project. Thank you all again. Reed McClintock |

I just received this DVD. Ultra Quick shipping! Thanks Steve! I have to say, Reed's the man. Excellent DVD. I've watched it twice already. There's nothing for me to add that hasn't been said. I can do a classic palm but there are little things that Reed mentions that has helped me improve it even more, such as body language, etc.
Thanks Reed! Thanks Steve! Thanks Curtis! Amazing Job and well worth the wait. Get It! |

Just a quick note to Mr. Noobini's comment about skill learning. True, practice is important, and no DVD will practice for you. However, as Michael Ammar is fond of saying, practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.
In other words, unless you're on the right track, after all the practice in the world, you might end up being the best in the world at doing something the wrong way. What you need to acquire any skill is directed practice from someone who knows the technique and knows how to teach it. Reed certainly knows his way around this one, and he has developed a training method that will guide your practice towards steady results. One of the benefits of a system like this is that you'll see success along the way, and it won't be so hard to get around to practicing. Often what we call "laziness" is the natural tendency to avoid frustration. A system designed to avoid frustration will get you over it faster than any cheerleading "motivational" experience. Besides, you don't want to see Reed and Me in spandex. Trust me on that.

Hey Reed, you're very welcome regarding the DVD work. You once jokingly said I was a task master in the studio - but I think the results speak for themselves. We have a lot of talented elf's at The Magic Bakery and I think it shows. See you in Las Vegas!
in flames, glad you like the DVD. We appreciate your support! Hey Curtis, nice to see you're alive and well. I had heard a rumor you had slipped and fell in a volcano...bloody Internet. By the way, it's only a few hours flight time from Hawaii to Las Vegas, so I'm sure we'll be seeing your smiling face as well.
