I am not sure of the title of this effect but I have seen copperfeid do it. A balloon is stretched and as it does it whistles. You have a whistle in your mouth doing all the whistling that is supposedly coming from the balloon. Where can I get the whistle. Does anyone know. Can you give me a link? thanks.
Find out what you cannot do.., Then go and do it!

Why not try one of the squeaker toys and put it in the mouth of the balloon. you can get the pet squeaker toys from basically any pet store or food store.

They are called Mouth Squeakers. You might want to look elsewhere, but here is a link for them.
Best bet,...order a handful. They tend to not function well after they are all wet and full of spit.

Magic Inc. might have them or a clown supply store might have them.

Here you go something closer...but remember there is some great magic over the pond too and don't be afraid to buy something there.

If you're in the Toronto area, you can drop by the Browser's Den:

http://www.browsersden.com/welcome.htm

(go into their on-line catalogue, then search for squeaker) Also check out the booklet, the Art of Public Squeaking, which includes a sqeaker device.

In a pinch, you can perhaps just pull the little squeaker device out of a rubber dog's or baby's toy.

For those of you who hasn't seen it yet, this is Copperfield doing a squeaker that Mark referred to in his original post:

You can also use a swiss bird warbler for this.

The swiss warbler takes practice but well worth it. completely undetectable. talk & drink with it, just don't swallow it.

This is a lot older than Dan Garrett!!!!

I believe I have seen it done by the Marx Brothers or little rascals which leads me to believe it is a vaudeville routine.

Mark is right about that! A LOT of things are older than Dan Garrett. But then, I'm older that most of the folks on Magic Café, lol! (I turn 56 tomorrow.)

I think I was the first to publish the balloon squeak gag in the context of a magic routine. I developed it independently of the Marx Brothers and vaudeville, but that means nothing. I'm sure this sort of thing has been done before. Who knows, it may be much older than the Marx Brothers.

I guess it really can't pre-date the invention of bird warblers or balloons, but similar things (both) were around long before plastic and latex were invented, so anyone's guess... is probably wrong!

Thanks for editing my head off the pic. If my wife knew what I did whilst she was at work, well, it doesn't bear thinking about...
