I'm thinking of getting this gimmick/book/video. However, do you guys recommend this? What are the pros and cons?

If you mean Bill Tarr's book, it is great. Get it.
The pro is it is easy to understand and has basic sleights for lots of different objects. The con, I guess, would be it will make you want to buy more books to get deeper into the stuff you enjoy doing the most. /bamba |

I think he means the coin gimmick that comes with a vid and booklet from Meir Yedid for about thirty dollars.I have it and yes it is good as it can be adapted for other objects besides coins.Hope this helps.

Not a bad trick. But you need to practice the master move well.

I purchased the book today and find it difficult to understand many of the descriptions and references to the illustrations. Maybe I'm just dense, but I'm going to stick with the book and see if it starts to make sense...

For me it is impractical and I never use it. Other people love it and use it all the time. It depends on what you are looking for and the environment you are performing in. I'd say buy it anyway just so you know what it is, and maybe if you don't use it now you will in the future.

I've given it a few days and must say that the book is well worth the price! There is SOOO much in there.
As I said before, I would have like a little more text describing the illustrations, but I've had much success over the weekend with most of the stuff.. See Ya, Gambit242 |

Since this is the Boooks & Pamphlets forum, Im wondering why people are talking about the trick of the same name. (If the poster meant the trick, maybe we should restart this post elsewhere?)
Now You See It Now You don't and The Second Now You See It Now You don't are excellent for beginners. The second one is my prefrence.

I also have to ask:are you talking about the book?If so buy it,it's brilliant-even more so the Second Now You See It,Now You Don't(I don't know many people with this book but it is better than the latter).

Bill Tarr's book is very good.
I mean very good, not great. If you're not oriented with some of the sleights, or haven't seen them done before it'll be pretty confusing - difficult even Not saying that its not good for a beginner who wants to get started, its just that soem of the text or drawings themselves can be confusing. Otherwise, it should be enough to keep a hobbyist busy, if he's openminded and would like to try a couple of the sleights in the book. Just my 2 cents. :)
I would, however contest that there is in REALITY very little pportunity to perform what could actually be termed "close-up" magic.

If I remember correctly his second book (The Now You See It, Now You Don't Notebook) devotes a few chapters to the gimmick he is refering to.

Bill Tarr's book is the first sleight of hand book I bought, and it has served me well. It's a great introduction to the subject and the illustrations are clear and easily understandable.
I'd recommend it to anyone who has an interest in magic. Adam |

I used to own that book but somehow it disappeared from my collection a while back when moving.
Was a pretty good book from what I remember...esp for the price (IMHO)

The next step up is the Now you See It, Now You Don't Notebook (hardcover).
The first two are really very good (we ALL can learn something from each of these). The "Notebook" is more for those who actually perform on a more professional level. |
