Hello!
My name is Ryan Lawrence. I am new to the Café and am enjoying it thoroughly. What an excellent resource! I've met so many fellow conjurers and received so much priceless advice and I've only been around for a week. Info on me - I have lived in Chicago for over three years. I've learned that having a degree in theatre doesn't necessarily mean you'll be able to make a living at it full time in the real world. That being said I work a dayjob to support my theatre and magic habits. I do the theatre, magic, juggling, variety thing part time for extra money (and for fun). Theatrically, I perform with several Chicago theatres. Magic/Variety wise I perform for everything from corp events to kids parties, from close-up, to fire-eating/juggling and illusions. I've received some improv training from Second City and I'm a certified member of the Society of American Fight Directors (condoning safely staged combat for theatre/film). I'd love to hear more from other board members. Thanks to everyone already for the excellent advice! Drop me a line sometime...especially you Chicago folks! Ryan |

G'day Ryan, you will find that "safely staged fights" are the only type ever likely to be condoned here.
Have a Magic day

Hey Ryan! Welcome to the board... I've just gotten here myself, but hey - I think the best way to get yourself comfortable at a new party is to greet the strangers as they enter the door... become the host whereever you are... thats what I say at least... it usually works pretty well... cept that one time with the enforcer... well... nevermind.
