This morning I dropped a sugar cube into my coffee. Then I changed my mind, reached in the cup and removed the cube, intact, without burning my fingers. How did I do this?

This one should take about 10 seconds for even the most casual puzzlehead, but I felt like posting a puzzle today.

It was instant coffee and the water had not been added yet?

Hmmm... covered in coffee grounds or instant coffee is intact? Okay, I'll remember that if you visit. Smile

Another answer is that it was iced coffee.
Humans make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to create boredom. Quite astonishing.

But the cube would still dissolve in a cold liquid, wouldn't it?

Mel Stover had a great variation on a classic. You have forty sugar cubes and three cups of coffee. The challenge is to put an odd number of cubes in each cup of coffee.

Oh, and for those who think they know this one, you can't put any cups inside other cups, either (which wouldn't work anyway, since these cups have coffee in them - yes, wet coffee).

Well I would just put an odd amount in each cup, like say maybe 5 each.

Since you didn't say all the cubes must be used....I didn't.

I'm sure that's not it...but that is my answer based on your question.

Well, four is not an odd number of legs for a dog to have...but four is
an odd number of legs for a human to have.

If I put any sugar in my coffee that would be odd.

Is this the old 1 - 1 - 38 gag? But 38 isn't an odd number. It's an odd number of cubes in my coffee! Boom, boom.

Or is there a more reasoned answer?

You could eat one cube and toss 13 into each cup. Not magical, but a sweet ending!
Yes, I am a magician. No I did not make my hare (hair) disappear... it just took early retirement.
