I know some Bulletin Boards allow you to participate in a poll. The Café doesn't have that feature, but I'd sure like to know which auction sites everybody seems to prefer. I've used the Café (not an auction), ebay, and magicauction.com as well as independent dealers with a variety of successes and failures.
What are your experiences with the ones you use? Do you have a preference, does it depend on what you're selling?

Magic Auction. They are great to work with whether you are buying or selling.

Ebay has many good auction sites but before bidding on magic items--especially books-- make sure you check first with magic dealers. Many of the magic items for sale are actually at retail or near retail price. I have seen many people caught bidding far more than retail on items because the seller claimed the item was "rare" or "out of print." Most of the sellers of magic on Ebay are actually internet magic dealers and by the time they add "postage and handling" the final cost is more than from straight magic dealers.

I have used eBay, Martinka and Magic Auction.
eBay is the place to look for the occasional bargain (like rummaging through a yard sale) and is probably the most rewarding site when you find something really special. Martinka is the best place to find specific collectables/rarities. It's more likely that you'll pay a higher price, but there are still bargains to be had. Magic Auction is also very good, as is Ron Allesi. As a buyer, I have never had any problems with any of these sites - they've all provided a great service. I don't have any specific preference as it depends on what I'm looking for. As a seller, I would certainly look at the comission charged, but would also consider which site is the more likely to sell for the best price.
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. Elayne Boosler

My problem with magicauction is that its hardly an auction, you make the starting listing price and they make the additional profit. You can get really screwed if your item sells for more than you expected it to.

The best auction site I know of is Bid-On-Magic.com. You can list your items for free, register for free, and NO COMMISSIONS!!!!!
Please everyone--do your part to keep pictures of props/secrets off of Ebay! The other day I saw detailed pics of an Asrah levitation--frame, base and all! What a disappointment! |

Because of the mass constant traffic, ebay is the place to go, even for collectibles.

Ebay. They have the largest selection and the best resources. Their feedback system is very helpful in deciding whether to purchase something from a seller.
