Hi guys,
Just wondering what you thought of this premise: The group is asked if they believe in past lives, and regressing into their previous souls. A suitable person is selected, and they fall into a form of trance, slowly going deeper and deeper, apparently 'regressing' into their previous life. The performer takes out a wallet, with an envelope inside - this is put aside for later. The person under the trance is asked to say certain things about their previous life - what their name was, how old they are, and when and how they died. The performer removes a handherchief, and attempts to 'remove' their previous existence - slowly, the handkerchief moves, until eventually there is a solid object underneath - another spectator can 'feel' this object, apparently their soul is trapped underneath the handkerchief - until the handkerchief is lifted - there is nothing there. The spirit is gone. The spectator is awoken, and the envelope removed - inside is a letter, which is written from the deceased soul - inclusing the correct name, date, and how they died. Let me know what you think - I think the methodolgy is relatively straightforward, but it could be a good dramatic bit of theater. Simon |

Yes good
but it might end up the volunteer actually believing about his past life... well I leave that to you too handle I think showing that nothing is written in the envelope and let the volunteer hold it thru the entire trannce might strenghten the effect then after the trance it now contain the correct information, thus relieving the idea (for the layman) that you are not using a stooge... or put the envelope under the handkerchief where the soul is trap thus it was actually his soul who wrote the information... |

I like the idea of placing the envelope under the handkerchief - I'm thinking of actually using solid ghost for this.
Obviously its a confabulation type effect, anyone any thoughts on having the envelope out at all times?? ONly know the SPelmann handling. I would only do ths in a seance type setting, but I like the idea of dropping the person into a trance- I feel this would work well even in a normal routine. Simon |

The premise is incorrect regarding reincarnation - it's not a past "soul", it's a past life, all experienced by one soul, as part of the learning process.
It doesn't really make sense, to be perfectly honest. I'm not deliberately trying to pee on your presentation, but, it needs work. If you can substitute "soul" with something else, you'd have something. Try some research on Hinduism and other religions, you might come up with something more accurate, perhaps an astrally projected state of the subject's soul that is caught in the handkerchief. I feel that accuracy is important in these things, you never know who you'll have in a show, or what they are experts in.

Myst - ya beat me to that one.
As far as how to make it work, how about letting it be the soul of someone trapped in pergatory or limbo. Then through the actions of the ceremony, they soul can then move on (look into the light, CarolAnne). Then the letter can be a letter of joy. If you sell it right, you could bring someone to tears. You just gave me a cool idea, Az.
I wonder if anyone makes a pirate broadcast box for both the VHF bands. (Low power, of course, we wouldn't want the FCC breaking down the door in the middle of the seance) Have that hidden away, then remotely start broadcasting, using one of those small portable DVD players as input (you've made the DVD yourself previously, natch); as the "soul" bebops around under the handkerchief, suddenly it finds itself trapped in the Television ! The channel goes to instant static, followed by ghostly echoing voices. The VCR and DVD player connected to the TV are both OFF. Change the channel, it's still there !! It's everywhere !! (Even the FM radio band unless you skip around 87MHz to 108MHz - funny how that's sandwiched right in between channel 6 and 7) Time to hit the back of my Popular Science magazines, they always have interesting ads back there. Hmm.. here's one that works on a single UHF band (adjustable/tunable), that'd work in a jif !! http://www.camera-supply.com/wv-300.html I keep adding edits here, as I find out more: The FCCs take on this: http://www.dailywireless.org/modules.php......sid=2588

Thanks Mystician,
Of course, this is merely a preliminary idea, and a work in progress. I will indeed look into the whole 'phenomenon', but I was just curious as to what others thought of the theatrical premise. Azrael, I like that idea a lot - could make for some extremely emotional drama. Thanks for the response, very much appreciated. Simon |

My feeling is the letter bit turns the whole thing into a mentalism schtick and completely detracts from the supernatural aspects. It turns the past lives things into just a gimmick to come up with a series of facts that you predict. I mean the odds that you have a letter with those facts that they just made up is unconvincing. But there are some interesting tangents you can take your idea on...you could reverse the scenario and have a series of real documents about a deceased person. Summon them and have a spectator seemingly channel them (you need a spectator that won't freak out on you!), "knowing" the facts on the documents through a series of forces.

Just to touch on the whole television idea again, I found a better link: this is a home kit that is fully adjustable on the lower VHF television band (Chnnl 2 thru 6), good up to about 50 feet maybe.
Perfect ! Roughly $50. This has serious possiblities ! Although it would probably be useless on a tv connected via cable.

Ok.. this reminds me of NIGHTMARE ALLEY---get grieving people's hopes up that their loved one can speak to them thru a medium--and gives them false hope.
Good movie. Ellen |

I love the TV idea but why would you have a TV on during a séance? Or would you have it just come on by it's self? In which case you could have the TV come on with no signal just static using a remote plug in switch and at the same time a tape player could start near the TV with the dialog. Who would know it wasn’t coming from the TV? And would be cheaper and easer to put together.
Great idea. |
