Where are you getting your facts from? That's almost as ridiculous as them being made from fiberglass or asbestos. They do not "appear" to melt - they actually melt. In prison, they are melted down into weapons. You can check my facts yourself by setting one on fire and watch it melt and bubble just like plastic does ... or from a large supply of sources online - I did a quick search of goggle for you: http://www.longwood.edu/cleanva/cigbuttfilters.htm Quote:
95% of cigarette filters are made of cellulose acetate (a plastic), and the balance are made from papers and rayon. The cellulose acetate tow fibers are thinner than sewing thread, white, and packed tightly together to create a filter; they can look like cotton. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigarette Quote:
Most cigarette filters are not biodegradable. In fact, ninety-five percent of filters are made of plastic cellulose acetate and take many years to decompose. Birds and other small animals can ingest cigarette butts, thinking that they are edible. Ingestion can lead to poisoning or fatal blockage of or accumulation in the digestive system... http://ezinearticles.com/?What-About-Cig......id=97372 Quote:
The filters are usually made from cellulose acetate, and studies have shown that smokers commonly ingest and/or inhale some of these fibres ... this means that if you smoke a filter cigarette you are likely to have small fragments of plastic-like material in your tubes and lungs. So before anyone here tries to eat a cigarette filter, I suggest you put a lighter to it and let it catch fire ... you will quickly change your mind! -JoeJoe

I prefer completely vanishing a cigarette up my nose. Watch the demo and see for yourself.
Instead of the nose you can use any other orifice to vanish the cigarette (ear, mouth etc.)in. |

They do not "appear" to melt - they actually melt. Well, after looking into cellulose acetate, it appears it's a synthetic fiber extracted from wood pulp/tree fibers. So I figured "the filters are made from tree fibers" may have been some form of verbal mis-information. That answer, was what I got was from an executive of a company that manufactures cigarette filters for Canadian tobacco companies. About 10 years ago when I was working in computers, that executive was one of my customers. But I did want to investigate further. So I just called up JTI-Macdonald Corp's (manufacturer of cigarettes with "a rich, smooth taste") comment line. When asked what the filters were made of, the lady on the other end, replied, "Natural cotton, er, I should say, natural fibers. But not plastic. That's not us. There's another company that uses plastic. We get asked that all the time". Hmmm. Not very convincing. But technically, if they are using sythesized polymers, from wood pulp, yes they would be natural fibers. But being polymers, would also be considered plastic. So I wasn't happy with that answer. I tried calling back but received no luck. Kept going to their voicemail system. So I called a few times back and tried various extensions till I got to someone's office. They transfered me to another office, where I got the voicemail of an individual. He's back in his office Aug 22, so I will be looking forward to his phonecall.
