Hi everybody! I went to the magicpitch.com and was wondering about the "Animal Cups". When doing Cups and Balls, I tend to not like a huge part on the top, I do not know why I don't like though. So my question is, Do the regular "Animal Cups have a big dimple type thing(or the dimmennsion of the top part)? IF they do should I get the "Super Animals" instead of regular Animals, because I know that the "Super Animals" have a small dimple. Or I have seen the Gazzo street cups(style 1) and was wondering if you could still get those somewhere. Kepp in mind though it has to be style 1 because style 2 has a huge top part.
I also wanted to know one more thing. Right now I'm using Morrisey cups(they're practice cups) and I use 5 juggling balls and a smiley face ball as my final load. I was wondering if I do a show before I get the Animal cups(or if I can get the Gazzo street cups), would those as the final loads be good? Thanks Everybody, Alex

Just ask for the "small top" animals. That would eliminate any confusion. The "Style 1" cups seem to be now known as "Super Animals." At least, that's the closest you're going to get with the current production.
While you're shopping, you'll need some good quality larger balls too. Be sure to get big ones, the little ones look downright silly perched atop large Gazzo and Animals. They take some getting used to, but they really are better. There are some good leather ones available there that don't roll away from you. Unless you're doing something spectacular (a table full of oranges and a melon come to mind) three balls are just fine for final loads. Maybe four.

Dave, the leather balls are beautiful, but I don't see any prices. Did I miss something?
I use "my own" cups. Some years ago I found some beautiful metal cups in a garden place. They are apparently flower pots, but you'd never know. They are made of pewter, I suppose, but they are highly polished, thick, and rather heavy (which I like). They won't dent, but they might scratch, so I take good care of them -- so much so that I don't do any flourishes with them. They nest nicely but they don't have the "scoop" in the bottom that most cups have, so I use sponge balls with them. Also, I have a special wand I made especially to go with the cups. I used a faceted metal rod that I removed ("liberated") from a wind chime and fixed a pair of jewelled cuff links I had to the ends. That and a metal box for the balls that matches the cups makes for an attractive and unusual cups and balls set.

As I recall, the Super Animal is actually a small-top Gazzo cup (i.e. v big orange as a load), whereas the Animals & the small-top Animals are different (slightly smaller load size - but easily takes a baseball). The next step down is the Babe (fractionally smaller than the Animal, but still takes a baseball).
Gary Animal still posts on the Café occasionally. He's in the process of re-designing the Animal cup. The new version sounds like it's going to be a Babe-sized cup with a small top. In other words, it's going to be slightly smaller (a few millimetres) than previous Animal cups, but will still take a baseball as a final load, and will have the small tops. Richard

I believe that the small top Animals *are* the Super Animals.

So should I get the Babe cup small tops when they come out? Then get the mini-baseballs?

There are a couple of issues with the Magicpitch cups. One is that Gary Knights, aka Gary Animal, has taken himself off-line. He is the current supplier of these cups. If you plan to order a set of the cups, you had probably telephone Magicpitch and find out what they actually have in stock. If they don't have the product you want, chances are they won't be able to get it for the forseeable future. Read their disclaimers very carefully.
Another is this: the "Super Animals" are, indeed, the old Gazzo cups. There was originally a smaller "Animal" cup with a small top. It had an ID of 79 mm. at the mouth. I have a set of each of these. The Babe, the Animal and the Gazzo cups will easily take a baseball. The Morrissey cups you are currently working with are not jumbo cups. You may not need a jumbo cup, if you like the size of cup you are currently working with. If you want a really nice small bottom cup, and the size of load you are currently working with is okay, then consider the Owen 100th anniversary cup. They are a bit more expensive, but they are in stock. I just found out yesterday morning that they had copper cups and gold plated ones, and have ordered a set of each for the museum. The bottom is a bit larger than the super animal but smaller than the newer Gazzo style. If I were going to do the kind of act you describe, I would get the copper Sherwood cups and be done with it. They will take a tennis ball, but their design makes it look impossible for the ball to fit.

Let's add to the confusion one more time:
(edit: It seems Bill and I were writing about the same time, Listen to Bill, he knows) Last time I checked there were: Gazzo's (large top) Super Animals (small top, same size as the Gazzo's and closest you'll find to the old "Style 1")sometimes referred to as "Small top Gazzo's" These are the ones I have. Animals (large top) Small top Animals (duhh) Babes (large top) Love cups (tennis ball load size, tops are proportionally smaller) Golf cups (golf ball load size, tops are proportionally smaller) Some of these are available in Guild metal, which is a gold tone bronze alloy. As previously stated, Gary Animal is redesigning his cups. He stopped making cups earlier this year other than to supply Gazzo with his preferred "Gazzo" (large top) cups, and is selling off the remaining stock of the rest of the sizes through http://www.magicpitch.com He's on no fixed schedule to provide stock to anybody anymore, so a few new ones might turn up from time to time as he has the time or desire. Nobody here can really answer which one you "should" buy. That's entirely up to you. I use the small top Gazzo's (Super Animals) for outdoors, but I think they're too big for close up. For that I have a set of Charlie Miller cups and scale everything down accordingly.

Gary's UK operation seems to have come to a screeching halt. I've seen what is on the web site at magicpitch.com, but I don't know what is actually in stock. That's the real question.
If I wanted to purchase any of the cups, I would phone them, rather than dealing through e-mail. It's faster and much more certain. BTW, if you haven't visited the cups and balls museum, you really should. It will give you a lot of ideas. http://www.cupsandballsmuseum.com

Right now, a number of people have jumbo cups on the drawing board. However, the most consistent source of excellent jumbos has been Auke van Dokkum of the Netherlands. He is located at http://www.cupsandballs.nl .
The Harries Jumbos are nice, but rather light.
