My influencial top ten have been listed in the main. I would also have to include Jerry Sadowitz for his original thinking and extraordinary finesse. Anyone else agree?

VIn no particular order:
1. Guy Hollingworth 2. Jean Pierre Vallarino 3. Greg Wilson 4. Lance Burton (I've learned something from a "close-up" act of his.) 5. Michael Ammar 6. Dan Watkins and (again in no particular order) recently inspired me: 7. Cyril Takayama 8. Rannie Raymundo 9. Erik Mana
I would, however contest that there is in REALITY very little pportunity to perform what could actually be termed "close-up" magic.

Tommy Wonder-taught me how to entertain and make my performance the least fishy as possible
Dai Vernon-naturalness and first tricks I ever learned David Roth-don't own anything, but have seen him work and he is the one who made me think coin magic isn't a foolish branch of the art Paul Harris-the most creative magician alive Jay Sankey- the second most creative magician alive Max Maven-I know he's a mentalist, but have you seen him work with cards David Acer-the funniest magician alive Eugene Burger-taught me how to be a great close-up magician Alex Elmsley-one of my favorite magical creators, may he rest in peace Daryl-one of the most engaging and entertaining performers I've ever seen There are many more, but these are the first ten that come to mind. Cheers, mackmania

Some magicians who have been influential in sparking my interest and love of magic:
Al Cohen Barry Taylor John Carney Michael Ammar Harry Lorayne Bodine Bolasco David Lederman Ricky Jay David Copperfield David Regal I've met or seen each of them perform live, with the exception of David Regal. Of these, I give the most credit to Al Cohen. Not only is he one of the best sleight of hand artists I've ever seen, he's a wonderful entertainer, a gentleman, and former owner of what used to be the best magic shop in the country. Walking into Al's Magic Shop was truly a "magical" experience. |

The guy who started me on the path to magic was an old gent named Charlie Grimm in Lynchburg, VA. To him I owe the most thanks.
Through the years since then I have seen many, but these get the extra tip of the magic hat: Doc Eason, J.C. Wagner, and Scotty York - For showing me the right way to approach bar magic (I used their teachings when I worked a bar in Staunton, VA years ago and their help brought me the big tips). Aldo Colombini and Mike Ammar - For all around close-up fun. They taught me to go for the total entertainment value of each effect and not just the "trick". Danny Tong - For teaching me how to work a table in a restaurant. He is a master. To those who have never heard of him or seen one of his lectures you are missing out big time. Docc Hilford, Tony Andruzzi, Eugene Burger, and Peter Marucci - For turning me to the dark side. Their guidance in all matters dark and sinister (and sometimes light-hearted) are a boon to ANY Bizarrist! To those listed I thank you! For good or evil you have made me what I am today. You are the true masters of your craft. Thank you ever so much! Doug Byrd |

You have to really be careful hanging around with Dave. He might make you think. Then your magic might actually improve. And if that happens, then where will you be?
You really have to be careful.

I had the priviledge of watching Jennings and Dingle perform at a convention in Kansas City. Both were brilliant, even while drunk (not trying to be negative, just saw lots of talent).

I don't know how to do videos. And I ain't that good with my hands anymore since having surgury on both of them a couple of years ago. There are some Japanese NHK videos of my stage act out there somewhere. On two TV Specials I did in Japan I dressed in Samurai costume on roller skates. Did the KB Bottles, my no-tilt chinese sticks and my own card in balloon (my signature closing effect). On one show I did a gag that back fired and set my hand on fire... but continued on (in pain). Oh well.
Also did a lecture with Fred Kaps over there. For a better review of what I have done, David Regal has just finished a huge piece that will run in Genii in a few months (as soon as I can finish the photos).
