Here is a three part puzzle, with a tenuous link of doors. This first part should cause you no problems...

Most weekends you'll see me out and about doing magic or making balloon animals for kids. One such instance had me in town, near a building which had a sign on the door that indicated that it was available for renting. During the course of the day, I saw a number of people enter, but they didn't stay long. In fact, they actually looked relieved when leaving.

When I finished my work, I went into this building, and saw the reason for this was because something was missing. What was it?

---

Parts two and three will come along over the next few days or so

Didn't stay long? Perhaps there wasn't much to see. Perhaps it was an
empty shell of a building.

Relieved when leaving? Perhaps they feared they might not be able to
get out. Was the other side of the door missing a door knob?

Perhaps what was missing was the facilities appropriate paper?

It is a toilet (not a portable one), which is why they are relieved. I still need to know what was missing - not paper or door handles, though...

No partitions separating the commodes? Or no doors on the stalls?

Nice ideas, not right though. Remember - the sign indicated that the building was available for rent. Yet this is a toilet???

A broken glass warehouse, but not broken glass for anyone to get hurt by? Or an old fireworks plant?

Sorry, no. Have a think about what the sign might actually have said

Looks like you'll have to let us work on this one a bit
longer, Stephen. I've been so distracted thinking about
this puzzle, I've lost an important letter and my boss
is going to kill me.

Missing: toilet
Short stay: Can only do #1 into the exposed 4" drain pipe
Relieved when left: Confined in a small space with an uncapped sewer pipe.
For rent: As mentioned before, pay toilet or Magic Zone location.

Interesting guesses from Jonathan and The Cardfather. Stan Alger, as usual, has solved it - so look to his post for a clue

A post office! Good lateral thinking.

I thought from Stan's answer that it was a post office... people were going in to drop letters so they came and went... and the reason for the rent sign is that they rent post office boxes there.
I guess I could be wrong, but I thought that was what Stan was alluding to.

Hmm?

Greg,

You may be right, it's the toilet part that's confuses me. Stephen said that the place is a toilet. Stephen?

Oh, wait... I know... paper is missing...that's why Stan's boss is mad... he used a letter to... well, to clean up.

LOL, that may be true in Stans case...but Stephen says that it's not paper or door handles that are missing in the this puzzle. I'm lost, maybe the sign to the post office just says P-Off.
