Well you actually got me doing research on this. hehehe Man it goes to show how whacked out I am huh? hehehe What I found out was the the average price of a Big Mac in most cities in the United States runs on average of $2.90 - $3.00 for just the Big Mac sandwich.
If this is the case, for a basic b-day party I am charging around 50-60 Big Macs. For a deluxe b-day party or with traveling fee added in, I may charge around 60-67 BigMacs. Now for interesting facts, here are some average prices of Big Mac's in different countries: - Canada: $2.33 average - Sweden: $3.94 average - Euro Area Countries $3.28 average So, does anyone's figures now change based upon these figures researched? How are your own areas prices compare? You are right Nicholas, this is getting interesting. hehehe Maybe I should start telling my clients I receive payment in Big Macs. hehehe Kyle

In theory, a magician could also charge more in the inner city then in the outer suburbs. Obviously, the comparison is not set in stone, buts its far more accurate then just posting "I charge $200, I charge ¥200,000, I charged £150 or I charged €100." Also, I did my numbers wrong...I charge 70 big macs not 60. http://www.skfriends.com/big-mac-index.htm has all the prices for 2003. |

Exactly. It is an interesting way to do comparisons and one that I find rather fascinating. You can also track the average prices in different areas and countries easily with a little research online.
Now here is an interesting idea for discussion. If your going rate is say 50 big macs on average, then do you do a comparison and raise the price if you are going to a different area where the average is greater then where you are now? Makes you think. Say in your area Big Macs sell for $3.00 but in the city they go for $3.50. If your mean average is 50 big macs, does this mean we could essentially charge $175 for the show where in the burbs you would have charged $150? It is still the same product and the same 50 Big Mac structure. Hmm makes ya think a bit. Kyle Aww cool on the pricing guide Nicholas. I think this is also where I found some of my figures as well. I will check it out and update my own Big Mac prices accordingly. Thanks for posting. I just checked out that thread and it is not bad but seems to be the 2003 stats. I think I found one that is more current and updated. I will try and find it again. Kyle

And how would you compare BOR and up-sales?
In French Fries? And how many goodie bags you sell would be translated into soda pops? Since there is such a huge markup in both of these.
Nothing would get done at all, if man waited so long that no one could find fault with it.

Of course, I won't want him to travel to Singapore but I do know that he had once travelled to Brunei to perform for the Royalties, and Brunei is only about 100km away from Singapore.
I just wanted to know how much he charges in New York's Macs so that we can see the difference in his price and our price. |

I heard that the Sultan of Brunei is the richest man in the world. I wonder how many big mac's Silly Billy got for that job?

Has anyone found a site that breaks down current Big Mac prices according to city or even states? I have found several that compare copuntries averages, but not within the US or its cities. This might be interesting to find for comparison.

I do charge for traveling (especially with our higher gas prices here in California), but due to the demographics where I live, this past weekend I did a show only a half mile from my office. First time in 5 years. Looking over the year, my average distance to travel to a birthday party is 12 miles one way (roughly 30 minutes driving). Thus my large booty of Big Macs. Basic show (30 Minutes) = 69 and for All the Bells and Whistles (60 minutes) 94 Big Macs.

I've just called several Mcdonald's here in Montreal, from the poorest areas to the richest, and they all charge the same: $3.78. That would be about $3 U.S. However, since I am a vegetarian, I may have to start charging in Tofu Burgers.

I am curious as to the price of a bigmac in the areas of which we have posted. Around Philadelphia area, the average price is around $3 for a BigMac. What is the average price in your own area?

Hey Al,
I read from the Silly Billy book that the person in charge of paying him just gave him $500 without a tip. The Sultan doesn't carry cash with him and he doesn't give tips either.

Just for your infor: The sultan IS one of the richest man in the world. He just sell oil and that's it.
His house is about 6 storey high with 3 levels of basement and one basement is built as a bowling alley. Once a while, when they have nothing much to do they will hold a party and invite guys like us from Singapore to perform for them. And PRICE IS NOT AN ISSUE FOR THEM when we quote. Well, what do you expect from a family whose toilet bowl is made of GOLD?!?!? |

That is just unreal. But makes you wonder and think a bit. I pose this question, do any of you change your show or routines based upon the neighborhood or economic standards of the place you are going to perform at? Most would say no, however, your subconscious mind may actually make you perform differently then you usually do. Just an interesting food for thought.

I have had agents tell me that unless you ask double your usual fee this customer won't think you are any good. I'm sure the Sultan of Bruni wouldn't hire Silly Billy if he only charges $125 a show. Al

Al I agree 100%. I guess my question though is not do you change your price, but more do you ever change your show or how you present your show just because you are performing for a rich group? It is more a hypothetical question for discussion is all.
For example, if you were to get hired by Donald Trump or a movie star to do their kid's party, would you feel like you would have to change anything in your show? Would your subconscious mind make you chanhe your patter etc.? Kyle

It isn't subconcious at all it is the art of the deal, Donald Trump would be insulted if you were not a hard bargainer. My price will always be as much as I can possibly get, and after I knock their sox off I want them to tip me. Al

Speaking from the person living 'nearest' to the Sultan , I realised that some of us charges double, some charges just the small premium, some charges the normal rates with transport charge. The Sultan has no problem with all prices.
I know it's unreal but my friends were there and they witness everything. Can you imagine your guest room is as posh as a five-star hotel??? |
