Don't get me wrong but everybody must have SOME gimmicked tricks.... I was wondering if this was a good one? I know it cant be examined.... I don't care...
the problem is... I could do a shapeshifter or a snap change and it would be almost better.... reccoemnd me some good gimmick/gaff card/close up tricks under 20 dollars... I have the royal road to card magic and now you see it now you don't and the whole tarbell series except for volume 8 so blah.

Which one is blink again? Is that a T&R card effect?

I have purchased and enjoyed a number of Eric Mason products (including the Mirage wallet, for example). I purchased Blink on an impulse and, frankly, was not particularly impressed. Yes, the change itself is startling because it is uncovered, but you must keep the deck moving a bit prior to the change so they won't see the gaff, and after the change you need to quickly burn the changed card or swap it for its ungaffed mate for the same reason. Add to this drawback is the fact that you must ring in a gimmicked card for this one effect, and you can't really repeat the effect for the same audience because the two cards involved in the change are fixed.
Hope this helps. |

Smashed Flat is a worthy effect where a magician finds a melted coin on the back of a signed selection. This 'melted coin' is obviously a metalic sticker; it won't come off even when the spectator tries to slide the cion off. You turn the selection upside-down and flick the back of it and a real coin flies off the back of the card. you then turn it over to show that there is no longer a coin adhered to the back of it. You can let them keep the card.
It costs five bucks and is available from Chris Larson at Alaskan Magic, I believe. The best and cheepest card gimmick that I've ever bought, beside Dan Harlan 'Hover Card' Which is fifteen dollars and worth every penny. ___________-=DecOY=-________

How about a very nice effect called wild" card" example : you have seven two of hearts and one wild card say three of spades, the cards are shown and when the wild card touches the twos they all become the three of spades..
Help me out here I do not know who to credit this effect to .. excellent trick for the money vinny |

I would not reccomend Blink. Its an ugly gaff and is not particularly impressive. Similar and more effective transformations can be attained without gaffs.
However, on the subject of gaffs and transformations, I would reccomend Onosaka's Card Mirage - beautiful. |

Actually, I did purchase Blink a while back..having been impreessed with an on-line demo of simply TOSSING the card in the air (with the face constantly visible)...changing to the selected card.
I agree...you need to either cover the gaff or keep it in constant motion...but more importantly...I can't get the darn thing to make a clean balanced rotation in the air. It just wobbles/bellyflops down due to it's weight. Anyone try this instant tossing change successfully? As a follow-up though...to me the main reason one would even do Blink is the ability to get that visible in the air out of the hands tossing change. It's (potentially) and example of how a gimmick can surpass sleight-of-hand methods. As mentioned earlier in thread...there are many sleights, Shapeshifter, Radical Change, etc, etc that accomplish much the same thing. |
