Great link Paul, thanks for sharing. I use a handwritten calendar and it does make a difference. What patter line do any of you use to get into it?

I used to use week-to-a-view diaries but have just purchased small day-to-a-page diaries. I know thre's no need, but they are far less suscebtible to scrutiny. The only trade off is that they are slightly bulkier. I also keep birthday books too. Like diaries but not year specific. I also use the Peter Scarlett Pimpernell Notecase - essentially a perfect billfold wallet. I won't elaborate too much as it will tip the wallet, but this allows for a an absolute miracle once in four performances, and without detriment to the effect on the other occasions, as the spec can remove the one and only card from the window in the wallet. I love this effect and keep it with me all the time. |

I patter about all the similarities between the deck of cards and the calendar.
Pretty interesting stuff. And Thanks Caigy for the link. Nez

The original and "selfworking"!

Another nice Check - up is when you have a diary with a ribbon, you recut it even for the even one, and cut it diagonal for the odd one..

Yes awesome Effect. I like Bob, have EVEYTHING written in tiny writing so I WON'T ever mistake anything. Roger I've always liked the Effect where you place something down first whether on a board like in your pic, of esp cards like I've seen in Hank Lee's Catalog. On Jon Tremaine he has a effect like that but you need a special something. Is that "The Method", or is there a clean match-up trick where you place items down first for under $50.00 Ed, (Eddini), C.H.

Is Chronologue easy enough for the hobbyist doing magic for friends at dinners? Any sleights?

Also, is it always the same card or can it be different?

Easy, no sleights. But do NOT buy the marketed version. Make up your own diary(s) as Cassidy does.

Where can I learn to do that?

Cassidy makes his own?! Wow. Didn't know that.
I'll add that although there are no sleights with this effect, it can be either a home-run or a total miss, depending on presentation and how you "sell it." (I've been tweaking my presentation for 10 years to get the most out of it) |

Highly recommended product. I like this principle. Clean and powerful ending effect.

The strong point of Chronologue--that puts it in a class beyond other pocket diary effects--is that no deck of cards is in play--only the card that appears on the spectator's chosen date.
The upgraded version from _The Artful Mentalism of Bob Cassidy_,called "The Ultimate Mind Trip," appears with some great new subtleties and does away with cards entirely. Highly recommended!

Bob Cassidy explains exactly how to make this in his "Mental Miracles" DVD. It is an absolute killer opening effect.

I'm stuck! Started making this tonight and found a huge flaw...
At the beginning of a new month you have to 'start again', however, if the last date of say april and the first day of may were on the same page and worked out they were both identical, then there is a problem! When you guys have run across this...what do you do?:-/

IMHO--Asking if the date is "even" or "odd"...and THEN reaching into your pocket for the calendar --is suspicious. Instead, just ask for the date itself, and then pull out the calendar.
Make a crib-sheet - so that you'll know the prediction card without ever having to open the calendar yourself (ok--I'll give this away---write a crib-sheet on the back of a "Blank-back" playing card. Put that card into a deck. As you patter about the relation of 52 cards and a calendar...spread the card faces to audience--allowing you to secretly glimpse at crib card in deck. Crib sheet can also be on rear of a small spiral notepad--on the front of pad you visibly write down the called-out date, and then glimpse the peek). Buy the calendar books and write the cards in your own handwriting---the printed-up commercial versions look suspicious and fake. I produce one of the 4 Jumbo prediction playing cards from my pocket--and at the same time - I also remove the calendar booklet...and I hand the calendar directly to the spectator w/o ever needing to open it. (btw - I'm don't use "LOL"..cause I'm an adult) |

I use RAY PIATT'S THE PIATT ENVELOPE - then YOU can have the envelope in full view from the very beginning of the effect. Try that, its make it stronger...

Kjellstrom,
I really like the PIATT ENVELOPE. I have another question for the users of Chronologue. I've seen several threads that talk about what wallet works for Chronologue but with little discussion on the specific subject. I would like to pick up a wallet for Chronologue so which one would the Café' collective suggest? Tom

I use Chronologue in conjunction with Perfect Time when necessary. The instant they name (or in my case, write down) the time, you know if you'll need to stall for time, so in the end, you've not only predicted the exact time, but the date as well.
