"Switch" is complete (I have a finished proof in my hands now) and it is getting one final go through to ensure all is in order and then off to the printers. I'd guess we'll be seeing it from the printers in October. It is unbelievable.
John Lovick and I acquired some of the best thinking, routines, handlings, etc. and John did an incredible job with the writing and production. Andrew Pinard did the layout and technical advising, Tony Dunn and John Lovick did the illustrations, and we had a small team of people helping us in gathering the best material worldwide. This book started out as supposedly a small booklet featuring a great handling by David Harkey and a few others that I presented to John but quickly grew and grew as John promoted an encyclopedic approach. John really took this on as his baby and the end reader will be fortunate for this devotion. "Switch" is over 350 pages, over 900 illustrations, and a virtual who's who of contributors. Everything in it is "A" material. All the fluff has been cut out. One of the highlights of the book, in my opinion, was that we were able to track down Vlado, the guy who actually invented the bill switch and from who's handling many other handlings evolved. Whether you do stage or close up, are using the bill switch or have never used it and just have considered it, etc. you will find valuable information in this book. This will be a must have book. We had a few hold ups on dust jacket and introduction but all is complete and wonderful. I'd imagine it will ship to the printers in the next week or so and then it is typically about 8 weeks.

Here they're saying the first week of march.
Unfolding The $100 Bill Change by John Lovick • The original handling of the $100 Bill Switch—as performed by the inventor—described for the very first time. • More than twenty variations—some use a thumbtip and others don’t, some use fewer folds, and one uses no folds at all! • Instantaneous changes, multiple switches, palm-up handlings, a one-handed change, bill productions and vanishes, visual transformations and more. • Sleights, subtleties, utility moves, performance theory, presentation ideas, and a definitive history of the bill switch. • More than 60 close-up and stand-up routines, each described in meticulous detail with over 700 illustrations. The routines include Transpositions, Bill-to-Impossible-Location plots, Torn & Restored effects, and several routines that don’t even involve money. CONTRIBUTORS INCLUDE: David Acer Jon Allen Michael Ammar Danny Archer Gaetan Bloom Marc DeSouza Dan Garrett Bill Goldman Dave Gripenwaldt David Harkey Richard Hatch Roger Klause Mike Kozlowski Gary Kurtz Bill Malone Jay Marshall Max Maven Steve Mayhew Robert E. I just got word from the printers yesterday that the book ships to Murphy's March 23 and then it will be available from your favorite dealer. Obviously allow time for freight shipment to Murphy's then shipping to various dealers worldwide.

A question arises here if bill's of other sizes works as well as dollar bill's, ie swedish currency for exemple ...

John Lovick, in his review of the book in the March MAGIC, called the switch "worth the price of the book" ($45) and he should know! This routine will not be in his SWITCH compendium.

If you have red large denomination currency and your lower denomination are purple, then you will have a difficult time to perform any bill switch. The same with size, if one bill is 60 MM long and another is 20 MM long then of course you will have a shrinking or growing bill trick and not so much a value change. We have the unique inside out bill here in America, and this seems to be a popular switch item. Our money is also the same size, which helps make the switch invisible. |

Bill Switches and Bill Changes are very versatile tools and there are techniques and routines from around the world in SWITCH. Some of them BENEFIT from bills that are different sizes and colors. As to the Donster's questions, The $100 Bill Switch was invented by a circus performer named Vladimir Vladimirov, and it is fairly easy to learn but takes a lot of practice to be as smooth and fair looking as it should. |
