Is it just me or does not everyone realise it's pointless?
I mean, is the original routine not pointless enough? Tell me, who goes out there in the real world and perform that as a whole real routine for lay people (excpet tudor himself). I highly dooubt it. yea you might do flourishes. But the whole routine put in that way? and having people strain their mind (and hands) over it and use up months of their life to practise sth they might not really have practical use to........ simply put, I think this is just a promotional plan for penguin to get more kids buying the dvd and then later realising they won't ever win it..... those who could technically win this probably would already have Tudor's old material and doesn't need to get Generation X from penguin, or either they won't enter. my idea, could be wrong. But that's what I think. |

Mickey, why do people go to breakdance shows and watch?
Isn't breakdance pretty similar when you think about it? And breakdance is very big, and they keep Battle of the Year each year for it. Card stuff may grow and become that big, who knows? The routine is not pointless, when the video for Showoff was on his website, I showed it to a lot of people, and most of them was very impressed by his dexterity. I didn't think you could do shows with card flourishes only until I saw Seifs and Moneys R Us videos with live performances, and they got good reactons for what they did, and some laughs as well. (Good laughts, btw.) When you think about it, there is a way to make everything entertaining, you just need to figure out how to do it.

I am considering entering the contest. I know the routine. It's just a matter of getting it up to speed now.

So do i, I don't think as many people will make it as claimed.
Tudor does it very fast and fluid. People, do you have hands fast enough for your big mouth?

Greetings Mickey,
Its nice to see you posting here as we use to communicate quite frequently on expert magic's forum. You seemed very active there and I know you know what your talking about but I would just disagree on one thing. You say the showoff routine is pointless (the whole routine that is) yet I have used many exerpts from that routine into more flourish cuts. His three way cut and what the h*** happened to sybil are nice things to add. UI don't believe it was truly intended for it all to be together but for sake of competition, the challenge was promoted.

Everyone knows he is one of the worst teachers in magic. None the less he is one quick, talented cat.
You know you are a magician when you have boxes full of lecture notes you have never read, but still are excited about going out and buying more.

Jascha Heifetz may have been one of the greatest violinists of the last century, but he was still a terrible teacher.

Of course this was bound to happen. They want to promote bad material. And many people can do it faster, but with De'vo gone, I don't think any "mainstream" XCM'ers will win it.
And the funny thing is I think in some spots that Brain himself uses fast-fowarding ( please correct me if I'm wrong and you are 100% sure ) P

Houdinez, isn't it all about what the audience thinks?
I showed the showoff routine video for friends, as I wrote before, and they liked it a lot and thought it was cool. I showed the superhandz site to them, and they thought the elemental stuff was cool, but that De'vo went too far with it and made it look geeky. It's all about what the audience thinks, with flourish-related stuff I have shown my audience, I don't think it is all that bad from the reactions it gets. I did show them the superhandz 2003 video and they thought it was cool, probably as there was variety and not all card stuff, but this is about card manipulation, right? Who knows, Tudor may have an awesome cupstacking routine, as well as stuff similar to De'vos fingerring magic trick. Anyway, the material is far from bad, Tudor made Generation X and Showoff and that stuff when sybils and stuff had barely been seen by people, His material is not bad, I'd rather say many of the new variations on it is. I like the first original versions, but I mostly don't like the 3000 new ones.
