Most of us carry 'something' with us, all the time, for that moment when asked to "Do a quick trick!"
I keep four Queens of Hearts and four Kings of Spades in my wallet. I can perform three effects on the bounce with just these cards. A variant of Nick Trost's "8 card Brainwave" A variant of Peter Kane's "Jazz Aces" (In this case "Jazz Queens") A variant of Dave Campbell's "Dotty Spots" (But with the aforementioned cards) The question is - Are there any more effects out there that can be done with two sets of IDENTICAL 'four of a kinds'? Thanks |

Paul Harris - Reset.
And, the fact that you are using duplicates will takes some of the minor discrepancies out of the equasion. Dave.

Depending on the back colors, a variant of the color changing deck (color changing packet) would work well.

How about a three card monte routine? I always keep 3 cards in my wallet for just this effect!

The only reason I stopped was it was too similar to the Jazz Aces type of effect. I agree with you about the discrepancy theory though - That is the very reason I use duplicates. any more folks? Oil & Water
Dr Daley's last trick In the company of men how about a dirty version - queen on top or bottom then girl on girl... maybe not apologies for this idea - it came from nowhere based on cards you chose ;-) although the more I think of it... it certainly beats aces and gives it an interesting theme ;-) - has this been done ?

I'd be interested in an Oil and Water effect using the cards described (shouldn't there be at least two d/f cards?) But I can't see how Dr Daley would work with dupes. Just to reiterate I'm using two sets of four identical court cards and looking for effect to utilise ALL eight cards. RK |

Dr Daley's - You first place a queen on the specs hand and the king on top - magically they switch position because the Queen prefers it on top (your kind of women)... the second time thro' you get it right this time by giving them the king and then the queen on top (she prefers that position) - magically you have the two "GIRLS" because that's your preference - they are stuck with the 2 "MEN"...
Think outside the box... you don't just have kings/queens - you also have two suits, two sexes, love and death etc... take a look in secret section under the heading Free Trick : Trance - skim down to my take on it as a sobriety test - even this would work assumming you have a king/queen in 1st/2nd position... Click Here! it's my 3rd and 4th post on page 2... but read the first post to understand the effect... Oil & water is usually done with 2 differing suits, there are many impromptu versions... you mix-up the kings with queens and each time they seperate - hence oil/water...

If anyone does, could they point me in the right direction where it is in print. Thanks Clarioneer for your reasoned input, but I may just not be getting it. I am trying to achieve other effects with the EIGHT cards - not just a few of 'em And, I was totally confused by the link you provided. Are we talking about the same thing? Cheers RK |

Roger, there is an easy/quickie oil and water you can do with 8 cards. I have video of it up at http://www24.brinkster.com/michb/magic/ click "Follow the Leader"....(you'll have to sit thru first phase of routine which is Daryl's "Follow the Leader", but then second phase is an oil and water. I'm using 20 cards but just do it with 8.
By the way I do the same thing I carry 8 cards with me the same as you all the time and I'm always trying to figure out different things to do with just those 8. I'd never heard of the "Dotty Spots" trick?? but I'm going to search on it, thanks. |

Roger:
Oil and Water can be done with any contrasting cards: black kings and red queens is perfect. There is a nice, quick version on the Learned Pig website by a magican named Gabi. Ray Kosby has a stunning version on his "Impossible Card Magic" video that would work with the cards you mentioned. And if you added another duplicate card, you could do a very nice Oil and Water routine by Danny Dew, that was published on the Little Egypt Gazette website. I don't know if it's still available for download, but if not I'm sure someone here could help you out. And now that I think about it, "Nice Salad" by Aldo Colombini could also be adapted to your card set as well. That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there must be dozens of other effects that would work as well. Thanks for your post: I like the idea of having a small group of cards that you can pull out at a moment's notice and blow people away. I'm going to give it some more thought, and get back to you. |

Michael B: Thanks for that! I found your link and like your thinking. It then 'smacked' me in the face watching your second phase that the conclusion of Nick Trost's "Trost on Reset" closes with a mini "Oil and Water" Duh!
Dave's Dotty Spots is available in Peter Duffie's book "The Dave Campbell Legacy" - a book exclusively available from International Magic in London. DC used four red spot cards and four blue spot cards - hence the title, but can easily be adapted to any indetical four of a kinds. It is a staggering three phase routine where cards just aren't where they should be! Very easy to do. Phaedrus: Thanks for your input to. I'm a member of TLP so I'll pop in and have a look! I look forward to hearing from you when you when you have pondered what else we can do with these blessed things! Cheers |

You could try using Bro. John Hamman's underground transposition. You could also try full packet transpositions, such as Lee Asher's Trey Sheik, or things of the like. A few issues ago in Magic Magazine there some good ones.

The sobriety test I suggested requires a packet (8 is fine) - the whole effect consists of a single DL eg. it requires 3 or more cards - 8 is perfect although only the top two cards actually do anything - so what you'll be saying next that each effect must last exactly 4.5 minutes - entire setup - top two cards are different - a queen and a king is just fine the fact that you only have kings and queens will make the effect even funnier (how could he get that wrong)!
catch you later
