Hey guys,
I've just earned my MBA in marketing and finance, and was wondering if how I could parlay that into work in the magic industry. Perhaps marketing a show, or helping with the finances for one. Just wondering if anyone knew of anyone I should contact, or if anyone had any general advice! Thanks for the help, know this is an odd question. |

If marketing is your thing you may want to look into trade shows.

Wizard....I'm located in Florida, and I'm not a professional magician no. I just fiddle around in front of family/friends. But I thought it could be cool if there were business oppotunities in the magic field....such as promoting a show and things like that

Probably don't want to jump into trade shows then.

or maybe you could do that the other way around that is to say incorporate magic into your work. Perhaps you get to meet lots of people or give speeches etc in the work place and maybe you could think of incorporating a little magic into that to help push home what your saying. Just an idea. |

RT,
PM me when you have the chance. I think that you will find that there are a lot of potential opportunities in this market for someone who wants to do the "work". If nothing else you could find a magician that you wanted to market out for a fee, providing that individual with a complete package (DVD, Photos, Bio, etc.) From there you can look at developing a show to promote. I think that you could look at it like a management or marketing firm for entertainers. The only problem with all of this is that it takes capital, and any magician that you talk to that is worth there salt will want to know that you can make things happen for them in the particular market that they want to work in. Of course you may be able to find an individual who is willing to work with you on this as a project for a piece of the future action. In addition to the performance section you will find that there are a lot of very creative individuals in this arena who have some great product ideas but just do not know how to get them to market, you could quite possibly help them in there pursuits of moving a product from concept to creation. Like I said PM me if you would like to talk more in depth. Kris

As a corporate speaker myself, I would suggest doing corporate speaking on sales and marketing. There are plenty of businesses out there who need help with that. You can work year round and never be out of work. Currently I can do 2 speaking gigs a month and be set for the next 3-4 months and live quite comfortably.
I would suggest going to http://www.DanKennedy.com he has a great resource out there called "The Mega Speakers Kit" or something like that. In my speeches (which seperates my from "the other guys") I do magic to "liven up" the audience. As a MBA graduate you should know that to sell anything you must find your clients weakness and pour salt water on it and take a cheese grater to it...and give them a solution...that solution is you! PM me if you want some more advice. |
