SEND
+MORE _______ MONEY Different letters equal different digits. What are the numbers? |

I think there is no solution, at least not in the decimal system.

I think the spacing has Heinz confused.
SEND + MORE = MONEY This represents an addition in which both the augend and the addend have four digits and the sum has five digits. (65872 108069 607 "259.") |

Nir,
We speak the same tongue. Here's an extension which involves all ten digits...and it has a unique solution under the usual rules. (But you have to start over with your digit-letter correspondences.) SEND + A + TAD + MORE = MONEY Stan Alger (without power in St. Louis due to ice storm) |

Stan,
did you invent this problem? without ruining to people I found the fact that 082 column exceeds "eo" (replace in code) very confusing... Nir |

This problem wasn't created by me.
I'll share my source with all...in a while. Nir, however, can find the source in a PM. Stan |

Before I forget...
I found SEND + A + TAD + MORE = MONEY in a Donald Knuth book. In a section on alphametics (cryptarithms), he gave credits to the creators of the examples he used. This particular problem didn't have a credit, so I'll bet it came from Donald Knuth himself. |
