Same letter, same digit. different letter, different digit. BTW. There is only one solution.
If you add the numbers that make up Send and More, you'll get money. |

If you know what number each letter represents
(and thus what letter each number represents), you can easily decode my earlier numerical post. |

Okay, here the solution.
9567+1085=10652 Why? The terms of the sum have four digits. The sum has five digits. So M=1 that means that S must be either S=8 or S=9. So O can be O=1 or O=0, It cannot be O=1 because, then M and O would be both 1. The conditions don't allow that. That means O=0, which chancels the possibility of S=8. So S=9. Here is what follows. Try to not get confused. If D+E<10 (because E unequal N) then N+R-10=E AND N=E+1 therefore E+1+R-10=E ==> R=9 which is WRONG (S=9, not R) If D+E>10 then D+E-10=Y, N+R-9=E, N=E+1 therefore E+1+R-9=E ==> R=8 which is POSSIBLE So far we got: M=1 O=0 S=9 R=8 D=Y+(10-E) therefore (10-E)< or equal 5, therefore E=5 OR E=6 If E=6, then N=7, D=Y+4 (Y=2, D=6 ==> WRONG, because E=6 not D) or (Y=3, D=7 ==> WRONG, because N=7 not D) If E=5, then N=6, D=Y+5 ==> Y=2, D=7 ==> POSSIBLE. M=1 O=0 S=9 R=8 E=5 N=6 Y=2 D=7 SEND + MORE = MONEY 9567 + 1085 = 10652 ==> TRUE, therefore the solution. |
