After much practise I¡¦ve finally mastered sleeving.
Note that by ¡¥mastered¡¦ I mean that the object now goes where it¡¦s meant to, rather than on the floor all of the time, so I know I¡¦ve got a lot of work to make it effortless. I¡¦m not a great sleight worker, but I was wondering what routines I can use my new learned skill in. I learned it for use in the linking polos/lifesavers routine, but would like to maximise on my skill (one technique->many effects ƒº). My first thought would be after a French drop to completely vanish the coin. I¡¦m going to look in Bobo for ideas, but does anyone else have any suggestions? Also after the move often my little finger protrudes. I would like to avoid this, any thoughts? Kevin. For the record, Bobo was a great source for this. It had many different methods and ideas for routines.
My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night; but ah, my foes, and oh, my friends - it gives a lovely light!

Yes, Bobo's has a good section on sleeving.
Also, Carl Cloutier's "Third Hand Magic" video explores sleeving (and using the topit). Manuel Muerte's "Done By Misdirection" DVD also has some effects that use sleeving, including his vanish of a lit candle. Adam |

Jim Pace has the most illusive sleeving move I have ever seen. He calls it "horizontal sleeving" and it is a real fooler. But, I don't know where it is published or demonstrated. Maybe Jim will tell us.

Hi Glenn,
I hope things are well with you. The "horizontal sleeving" is called Parrallel sleeveing in my Gags 2 DVD. Thanks for the comment. I found that it is useful for coins, and small solid objects. Usng minimum movement of the arm and focusing on the wrist ala gesturing to propel the coin into the sleeve. I do not want to give too much of the method...if any one would like to PM me I can break it down better. Jim

Hi KN_Magic,
I've also being studying a lot of sleeving technics and I've found that it trully is a great helper. The one I most like is the one invented by Dr. Robert and I could bet there's no better vanish and recover of a coin if you use it correctly (can't tell by your post if that was the one you had mastered...). I'm also using it for coins across rutines, were you can show one hand empty and the other with four coins, close both hands and make a coin travel (I use a shell for that). As said before there's a lot of good information and ideas you can get from Bobo's coin magic. Play with it as long as you can. There're tons of posibilities for a good sleeving. Just try no to abuse of the sleight too much. I try to use it a couple of times for each rutine at the most. Cheers and good luck Pablo Leal

Ross Bertram also has a chapter on sleeving in his book "Magic and Methods of Ross Bertram".
