Lo-Key - simply think about it for a few seconds...
Found Link and Stargazer really do require 2 contrasting bands. I prefer CMH - which as you put it is a penetration effect to actually use same colour... Star Gazer can be enhanced by first playing with a "normal" band the same color as the star band - you ring-in the star band and the magic becomes stronger... Colors can also be important under different lighting conditions or even the colour of your shirt or jacket...

Hey guys no reason to attack ..I enjoy band magic, I rarely post on the Café but read all the time ..
I made a statement... so what that's my opinion....IMO star gazer is a awful effect... I did not ask a question, I was only stating the color of the band has no bearing ion the effect except if one is doing a penetration, that's my opinion only,,,, ther was no disrespect intended go back and read the posas youself do you guys really care what color the band is , or is the effect most important |

"do you guys really care what color the band is , or is the effect most important"
yes to both for the same reason... the props, patter and skill make the entire effect - all should be maximised if you wish to think of yourself as a professional - anything less is sub-standard... if stargazer doesn't work for you - but works for everyone else - what does that suggest ??? Do a search on stargazer and you will throw-up the patter I use - based on Pop Idol - it makes sense of the entire effect... so okay that works for me - what patter do you use... or do you read but don't absorb or think or freewheel ??? There is even a link here to perform a one handed star - very useful - and simple to work in if you give it some thought...now imagine you do that and then undo it to show a normal band - you then ring-in a star shaped band same colour and a different color "normal band" - you just made the effect bigger than it was before...!!!!! add some decent patter and hey presto - what is rubbish in your hands is now great in somwone elses that gives it some time and thought! If you look at any great magician they can take any trick - any - and make it a work of art... check out whit's vids he has just uploaded and you'll see what I mean - buy any script from ron bauer and you'll see what I mean - listen to everything pete biro has to say and you'll see what I mean... If there is one thing/lesson you should learn on this forum it is this - make the trick your own! - whenever you buy a trick - you gain knowledge - it's merely a start point... no more than square one - it's then up to you to make it great for you... Color monte - I made up my own cards which better fit my style and fit with Dr daley's last trick and to further the theme I modified and slightly shortended gemini twins, holy moly I use coins and added an intro to give the coins sense and make it stronger, copper/silver developed my own ungimmicked version and patter etc etc etc... Stargazer do CMH with SAME color bands as the band you ring-in for stargazer with your OWN patter... ADOPT, ADAPT, IMPROVE... yes it matters - yes it's important...

Clarioneer ,you bring up many interesting points and I am not disagreeing with you.
I only stated that I thing stargazer is awful I do not like the effect. but this does not mean that the trick is bad it may even be great.... I have been into magic many many years I am nota newbie... whenp[ perfrom magic I rarely use patter this is my style not saying it is good or bad it is me. There are only a few magicians that I would seek out for help with bands most are members here on the Café.. And Pete Biro is not one of them. also you talk about buying a trick and making it my own I only perfrom impromtu band effects this is one reason I dislike star gazer. key vinny |

Pete Biro was just an example and yes not for bands
I too prefer impromptu but for such a small band that fits in my wallet - always with me - for me it is as impromptu as the two other bands it sits with along side a couple of coins with some holes in them and special business cards... that and the coins in my pocket makes me ready to go anytime any place Maybe it's a UK/US pro's breakdown - when you say "I think stargazer is awful I do not like it" - we would say simply "stargazer doesn't fit my style" or "stargazer is not for me" - quite different... Personally - my journey is now going to a place I was advised here and is often stated - stop chasing the latest greatest just make your personal favourites the best they can be... hone hone and hone some more until it fits like a tailor made suit and let the rest chase the dragon or should I say - their own tails a knucklebuster I shall never be - there's simply no need...

I agree with you it is a great idea, but finding a round #16 rubber band the same color as the stargazer rubber bands is not easy in my country either. Al

The magic guy above sells them... and has a link to his site and his one handed star... alternately buy a set of colored bands and pick out the ones to use with your set of star or animal shaped bands... use Marks one handed star using the "normal band" (size not important for that) then show it normal - switch in star band and away you go...
If you have trouble with patter fitting in - simply mention by demonstrating one handed star the properties of rubber going back to it's original shape... do it again but this time the star shape remains... BTW - if you don't like stargazer why not put this in as a nice filler... with a simple one-handed star... For star-gazer, depending on time, I can now do a one-handed star (properties of rubber - ultra quick), quick - cat's cradle using bands (just watch) or a fuller storyline... (I use pop idol theme). Nice to have options...

Hello:
I just received my order of bands from Mark "That Magic Guy" and they are terrific. I believe the regular bands are #19 bands, and are high quality. They stretch the same amount as the bands you can get from Russ N. (Pinnacle). Also, they are bright yellow, and a perfect match for the yellow star bands Marks sells. I can really see the advantage of using the bright bands, even if you're not doing his starband switch. If you are somewhere where lighting isn't that great, these really stand out - especially if you're wearing black. In addition, Mark give quick and friendly service. As they say on ebay, "My highest recommendation!" Well done, Mark. Ron |
