I'm in a mood of getting a new book. I came across two famous titles but don't know the contents and the practicality of the books. Can you please advise me which one ahould be the first to get? Thanks up front everyone.

Never hear of card file, but Eddie Fechter's book is terrific. Two of the four effects in my main restaurant/walk-around routine come from that book. Simple, direct, and magical. What could be better?

Eddie Fechter's book is one of the best buys you can do in your magic life! IMHO, Card File is not so good.

Sounds really encouraging. Thanks a lot. Eddie Fechter's book will soon be explored in great detail in Poland.

Fechter's the better buy. Recently, Karl Norman, who worked with Fechter, went over some of the ideas in the book with me. Excellent stuff!

It's called The Magic of Eddie Fechter.
I've had it for many years. I don't know where to get it today. Alan, any insights from Karl that you want to share with the rest of the class? |

Card File is very good. I've read it but don't own it. I wish I did.

I am not familiar with the Magic of Eddie Fechter book so I can’t comment on this book but I know that Jerry Mentzer has a lot of really good card books/booklets. I have these books and these are great:
Simple Yet Effective tricks with Cards by Jerry Mentzer Cunning Card Miracles by Jerry Mentzer Counts, Cuts, Moves & Subtlety by Jerry Mentzer Card to Wallet by Jerry Mentzer Packet Tricks by Jerry Mentzer Card File and Card File Two are also supposed to be good but I don’t have these yet so I don’t know. I will say that everything that I have bought that has been written by Jerry Mentzer has been a good purchase so far. Gerard

I bought my Fechter book from Davenports !
It's made a huge difference in my performing outlook and style, and its full of material that can be used. |

Fechter's book all the way! I have Card File as well and you just get more out of Fechter's.

Fechter's book is filled with great stuff. The best part is examining his effects for their construction and working out why he used the methods he did and the thinking behind it. Extremely direct, quick, shocking magic. Most of can be done without any set up at all. Go through it a once and you see some good effects. Go through it twice and see a genius at work.

"Fechter" is a great book. An incredible source of real-world practical, fast-paced, and powerful magic.
"Be Honest!", "I've Got a Surprise for You", the "6-4-5 Coin Trick" (used by Fred Kaps), "Eight to Twelve", "Card on Ceiling", "Fechter's Aces", "Impromptu Torn and Restored Cigarette" and many other of the routines in this book have been a part of my working repertoire for many years. The information on Eddie's peeks, peek forces and peek controls is worth the price of the book. Highly recommended. |

Pavlo, I'm not sure how "Card File" even got on your radar screen. "Fechter - The Magic of Eddie Fechter" however, is a must-have book for bar magicians (and heck, everyone else).
Eddie Fechter had a profound impact on magicians like Derek Dingle, Michael Skinner, and Paul Gertner among countless others. Great tricks in this volume include "I've Got a Surprise For You" (a favorite of Michael Skinner and Jamy Ian Swiss), "You've Been Real Good To Me", "That's It", "Knockout Prediction", the "Stop Trick", "How Do You Want Me To Find Your Card?", "Be Honest - What Is It" (a favorite of Paul Gertner), and countless others. This book will keep you busy for quite a while ... you may want to get the Matt Schulien book too, since it also covers the same territory as the Fechter book.

Pavlo:
Looks like the consensus is for Eddie Fechter's book. Peo is correct. Even Jerry Mentzer, the author of Card File and Card File Two is selling "The Magic of Eddie Fetcher" on his website. It even looks like Jerry Mentzer himself may have written Eddie Fechter's book! Gerard

Don't forget, Jerry Mentzer also wrote Deceptions in Paradise The Professional Close Up Magic of Curtis Kam......
But both Card File and Card File 2 are excellent tomes. Woody Landers has some excellent magic in the book..... :bluebikes:
