Devices of Human Restraint By Steve Santini

Wow, what can I say, Santini has an awesome collection of restraints that he still collects to this day. This book is geared towards: Collectors, Dealers, Locksmiths and Escapologists. Out of the few books that there are strictly on the subject of restraints this is by far the best. Steve covers: Ancient restraints, Mass produced antique handcuffs, Modern restraints, Psychiatric restraints, Remakes of hard to find classic restraints and a few odd ball restraints including an excellent glimpse of the authors own restraining devices.

This book contains an index buyers/sellers guide that is very broad which is good in keeping people from getting ripped off in a world where sellers are not always on the up and up.

The best part is Steve covers the names of the restraints, approximate circa of the restraint and, if applicable, type of lock and key and distinctive makings such as the manufactures name, all key in telling if it is a fake or legit restraint. This is very important for escape artist in determining the best way to open the restraint, how many wards, pins, or lack there of, there are and if a key is the best method for opening.

As well I know a lot of escape artist who have been “caught with their pants down” when a restraint is brought to them, the escape artist can’t even name, let alone escape from the restraint. Well, No more! Steve went to great lengths having the pictures of the restraints professionally done so that we can have a great idea of what the restraint looks like so we can commit a picture and name to memory rather than trying to match a line drawn picture to what handcuff we have before us.

Many of you may be thinking that you will never have a need to learn of restraints. I thought the same thing until I was challenged with a Bean Giant. Knowledge is the key to escape.

Also of value is a list of manufacturing terms and definitions as well as a glossary of handcuff terms.

According to the book this is Vol.1. I, for one, hope there will be many more and at just $18.95 USD plus shipping you can’t go wrong.

You can order your copy directly from Titanic Concepts Inc. 142 7th St. N.W., Portage la Prairie. Manitoba, Canada R1N 2L1.

Payment must be in the form of an International bank money order made out in U.S. funds, made payable to Titanic Concepts Inc., book orders going to the U.K. or any part of Europe, $14.00 USD must be added to cover shipping via air post. Shipping to the USA via airmail needs $6.50 added to the purchase price of the book.
A direct from text adaptation : The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde Starring Mickey Rooney in his final role.
