As the Sorceress in "Once Upon a Mattress", I have a finger flint flasher and 2x3-inch pieces of flash paper, but I can only get it to work about 1 out of 20 times! No good when I'm supposed to use it twice during the show! Not very impressive if I stand there and flick it till it lights. Is there some trick to loading the flash paper, or striking the flint that someone could help me out with?!

Try a little flash cotton with flash paper.

My trouble is getting my hands on flash cotton. Someone suggested putting a drop of lighter fluid on the flash paper??

Lighter Fluid in my experience does not help flash paper. The flint is designed to work with cotton, I know because I've tried and it works WONDERS.

If Jim Pace gives you advice on fire gimmicks, just take it.
Flash cotton is more flammable than flash paper, that it why it works so well with a flint flasher. And it only takes a small bit to help ignite the flash paper. Order it from Jim's web site, and you will not be dissapointed. It will work every time. I use it that way with flash shooters using "hot wire" technology and it is 100% reliable. BroDavid

Just don't pack the cotton too tight, it may not light as easily.

Hi all
My name is adam I make all flash products and several different types of flint flashers. Before you load the finger flasher, make sure you strike the flint first, this will ensure that you get a great spark during your show. I would allways suggest flash wool as the igniter, however if you have no wool you can take a piece of paper, then take hold of a pair of cutters, and make lots of tiny cuts in the paper, basiclly leaving fine strands, this will be just as good as the wool.
