I liked all of it apart from the man who they said worked for the BBC. It's a shame they couldn't get in another professional rather than this person.

I honestly don't think this worked. Most of the magic was visual which just DOES NOT WORK on radio. I think mentalism is the only form of magic you can do well over the airwaves because most of the time there really is NOTHING TO SEE.

I thought Chris Cox was the best, he had great patter and a tight well rehearsed script. Ali was ok, but the other two just had no personality, and, since they were relying on the visual aspect (which isn't there on radio) there is, essentially, nothing left.

Just my honest review.

Only listened to some of it, those chavicians were doing my heed in. Have to agree with Mesaboogie though, Chris Cox's bit sounded very nice.

Am I right in thinking that Chris Cox was the person who worked for the BBC? I am afraid I would have to disagree with Mr. Leonard and Mr. Boogie. I thought he came across very badly. The other performers were relaxed and polished and Mr. Cox sounded too eager to please and I cringed when he said things like "Okey Dokey".

Also, Mr. Boogie - I believe there were three other performers, not two.

I did listen, I felt it was ok and I agree with Mesaboogie that the mentalism played best over radio. The odd part to me was that the invisible deck was used twice? Good magicians never repeat a trick should apply to multiple performers in the same room as well... (Not that the performances would give a chance to work out the method, but you could hear in the audio that the response was quite hush the second time around)

Hi everbody! I just listened to the magic show on the radio...lol

Here are my ratinsg as follows..

Sam - 7/10

Seemed relaxed but he didn't have much time to get his personalittee across.

The camp northern bloke - 8/10

he made funny jokes about putting hsi hairy balls in the girls mouth.

Dynamo - 7.5/10

he is from the ghetto and has done well to get out. He has the skillz to pay his bills

Chris Cox 2/10
He was the most dissapointing Smile They said he worked at the pub where it was recorded so in fairness he tried his best. But he sounded very....you know...silly? Childlike I guess would be the best description. Okie dokie is the magic mind reading words that makes the magic happen.

I think its important in this instants to bear in mind goshmans immortal words You and the magic are united.

Peice,

Chris

Thanks for everyones comments very interesting...I'm like Marmite you either loved or hated me!

I am a profesional magician, but work at Radio One as my "day-job" hence why they played up on that aspect on the show for a gag.

Okey-dokey, is one of those tough ones in my routine....as part of my act and longer show I kinda use it as a running gag, but sadly it didn't come across on the radio...instead of being ironic and purposely cheesy it's obviously come across as , 'dear-god man do you have no shame...what are you saying are you a three year old?!' mental note to self, make sure it's obviously ironic next time!

My persona, is that of a lively, good natured, cheeky chap almost who can have some fun with his own and your mind....it's a less dark, yet still effective (or at least in my opinion) form of Mentalism.

The trick performed was only put together and scripted the night before, and I think it played very well...it's even better now....but I would say that!

Thanks for all your thoughts, any comments, good or bad, are always very very useful.

Yeah, the thing about Chris Cox, I don't think he would have got on the show if he didn't work for Radio 1. The other three are professional entertainers. His personality is quite bland and annoying, like a local commercial radio DJ or something. Also, the build up to the end of the trick was over 5 minutes - that's a long time on radio! Smile
He waffled on like he loved the sound of his own voice. The other performers kinda got on with it a bit more. You can tell they are real world workers from the magic trenches Smile

Kevin,

Not sure if you read my post before, but I do perform professionally throughout the country and have done so for the past 4 years, with a wealth of experience and a theatre tour under my belt. I'm currently working on my second stage show which has been comissioned by a Bristol venue.

I was picked to go on the show after a collegue of mine had seen some of my act. It's tough to fully get across my style on radio, but I've been praised for my relaxed, informal and entertaining style of performance.

I'd agree, the end wasn't quite as strong as I'd have hoped it to be, but this was due to various recording and staging problems...the tricks was like I said only invented the day before as I wanted to move further away from my old repotoir.

However like I said any comments are much appreciated to help me refine my act, I'm not a magician who believes all criticism to be rubbish, and your comments will be taken on board.

But like I said earlier, you can't please everyone and maybe I am marmite, you either love me or hate me.

I didn't realise you were the same person on the radio. I wouldn't have said what I have if I'd have known. Sorry mate.

Hahaha...boy that's funny!

What does that say about us magicians eh?! We're happy to say one thing about people behind their back, but if they're listening or reading then we won't say it! Interesting.

Kevin...seriously thank you for your comments, if they were really what you think and not just a slag off or something like that then they are massivly valued, and I hope that other magicians can be as candid about it and say what they really think and offer any constructive criticism and thoughs on how I can improve my routine.

Afterall we only can get better by constantly evaluating our performances.

Chris, you are a true professional with those words, a lot of pros wouldn't be so gracious for such negative comments.

I still stand by my words that I thiught your delivery was great; though why you would choose a routine that you just wrote the day before instead of a routine you have been doing for years baffles me.

Hi, Chris I thought you were great you seemed very relaxed and I loved your take on change of mind. The first two did sound like charvers which anoyes the s*** out of me. I thinks it true that mentalism is the only magic medium that can be used over the radio and even the other 3 used at least 1 mental magic effect in there act. Over all I enjoyed the show not a waste of time by a long shot:)

Thanks once again for these comments from Messa and Darren, really useful and interesting!

Messa....I decided to live on the edge and try something new instead of an old routine, as I wanted something that I knew would play over the radio, and something which was brand-spanking new, so I couldn't be accused of copying!!

I can just see myself now, doing Illusions on the radio: "And now, I will make this woman from the audience float all the way up to the ceiling, out the window, down the block, around the studio and finally come back here as naked as the day she was born." (Audience: "oooooh! Ahhhhhh!" thunderous applause).

Come to think of it, I could do magic on this forum in much the same way. "I will now completely disappear and you won't see me or hear from me for days!"

I loved your bit. I don't know what the effect was meant to be but you spoke the most and at the end of the day that's what it is all about.

Keep up the great work.
