A question, but first the description of what I am doing.....

The trick I am trying to do is a simple coin vanish. You hold a coin between the right forefinger and thumb of the right hand, with the palm turned slightly downward at a 45 degree angle toward my self, displaying the coin to the spectator. The right hand then turns the coin over, placing it in the palm of the left hand, the left hand closes over the coin as the empty right hand pulls away. The left hand is then opened to the spectator, revealing that coin has vanished.

I don't think I violated the rules of this forum, by posting this. As all I did was describe what the spectator sees, and not actualy revealing how the trick is done. But I am sure all of you guys here know how it is done. If I did, I am sorry and I will never do it again.

I have been practicing this trick in front of a mirror for about 15 minutes at a time. The first time I tried it, I could cleary see the 'SECRET', after a few more times it got a little better, but then I started pulling my left hand away instead of mu right. And as you all know, this will ruin the trick. How do I keep my concentration on doing it correctly?

Thanks.

Don't think about it! When you think about some thing to much you will mess it up. Do every thing in a natural fluid movement. I had the same problem when first working with the bobo vanish. You just have to disconect your brain for the most part. Hope this helps some.

It doesn't matter if you pull your right hand away or your left! It is not very likely that you will learn this sleight (or any other) with just fifteen minutes of practice. Do it over and over until you get tired of it and it becomes so automatic that you don't even think about the steps involved. To do it infront of a mirror is a great idea. In fact, it's almost a most. However, If coins is what you want to do, you should always have a coin with you and practice wherever you are, whithout letting other people know what you are doing of course. (yes, it's possible)

I also suggest that if you have a camcorder of some kind, record yourself. That way you can catch yourself at all angles.

It's been said by some that the RH should move to the LH and deposit the coin.
RH stops and relaxes as LH moves away.
This is and continuous flow from right to left with the eyes following the 'coin'.

This don't have to be a large motion.

If you were placing a coin in your LH and then putting the coin in your left pocket, this is the way most people would likely do it.
Try it an see what the hands do.

All good advice so far! You did forget one thing when describing your effect and that is the power of misdirection. You see with practise and doing the effect over and over you will then be able to concentrate on your patter (the story or just plain talking) as you wouldn't do this in total silence. It all comes down to practise and finding a reason or story as to why you are doing this for someone else. They will focus on that rather than watching your hands every moment although some do.

I agree video taping yourself is a really good idea as you can see your body stance. Do your eyes follow your hands with the coin, which is what most new magicians make the mistake of doing? Or the opposite hand to draw attention to it, or would they remain focused on the spectator? All things you would see and can correct using a tape or a well trusted person whom can give you feedback. Try to be as natural as possible as if you did what you say you did to the spectator.Your body movements should show this even if you were doing something else.

Good Luck!

How many hours a day would you all recommend practising this trick? The reason I am asking, I am trying to lern 2 more coin tricks at the same time, so I was wandering the time I should spend each day for each trick?

Don't try to learn to much at once. Practice wise you will get a different response from all of us most likley. When I got reall heavy into slieght of hand last year I would practice my slieghts and vanishes all day. I never walked around with out a coin in my hand or some cards in my pocket to practice with. Now I practice my magic about 6 hours a day now. But I am a magic junkie.

Take ur time.. if you know how to do the trick then pace yourself. Do it in front of a mirror, or for a family memeber.. let one person in on it so they can catch your angles. My g/f knows most of my trick..but on occation I like to surprise her.. you will get it.. g/l
