I'm looking to buy my first close-up mat, and I've been to all the magic store websites. However, they all seem to only stock the four basic colors of black, red, blue, and green. I had read in other places that other colors are possible such as a deep mustard-yellow or even a deep purple. Does anybody know of a store (or website) that sells quality close-up mats in various other colors than just black, red, blue, and green?
Thanks for your help! |

Have a good look around all the stationers and computer stores for the multitude of 'designer' mouse mats - they are just as good and a lot cheaper!!

What about making your own? Get a board, go to a fabric store, find some padding to put under your choice of fabric, and go to town. It may take some experimentation but you might end up with something very nice.
I was at a bar the other night that had a velvet style table cloth, it was actually better for card handling than a close up pad.

Buy a large (16" x 20") green Gibson mat. That's my recommendation.

Don't know about special colors, but this guy does special pads, and I have one. It's a large 24 x 36 black pad that I'm very happy with. Jason

I got my closeup pad at Staples. It's an oversized mousepad, one of which is black, but the other is a vibrant purple, which is good because I don't have any props that are purple, so everything stands out.

Trevor Duffy in South Africa has some nice ones made out of that material they make wet suits from. Trouble is, they are only black (and smell of sea-weed!)

Go to a carpet shop and buy a few of their samples they are edged off nice.
I know some some guys who cover their poker tables in carpet and they are cool.

Get in touch with Dean Dill. http://www.deandill.com He can do a custom order for you and the pad is hardboard so it can sit in your lap etc....A bit pricey, but well worth it and will last you a lifetime.
