Does anyone know the name of the song that Rick Thomas used in his WGM special a few years back? It was during the "Osmosis" illusion (the one where the woman crawls into him and disappears -- he brings her back by carrying out an empty box, which he holds up to his chest and she crawls out again).
From what I hear, it's not the same music he uses in Vegas. I e-mailed "Rick" (not sure if he answers his own e-mail or not) and he said that it was something NBC put in there afterwards. I found that a little odd. I thought stage performers would have rehearsed things to their own music and changing it would throw off the routine. Anyway, the lyrics are something like "move a little closer to me baby". Internet searches come up with songs of that title, but none are the same one. I've heard the same song in another movie along with others that sounded like they were by the same group. The clip is here if you want to see it ... http://www.rickthomas.com Go to MEDIA then go to the REGULAR LENGTH video. The short length video shows some quick clips of the illusion, but not the music. It's the part right after John Ritter announces Rick Thomas. Thanks. Kevin

WGM recorded with performers using their normal music, then that was pulled off and re-dubbed with their own music - this makes it much easier to sell the show to the networks as you KNOW where all the royalties have to go; rather than liasing with hundreds of different tracks from all the different performers.
It's unlikely you'll find the track for sale anywhere- it's almost certainly from a music library.

That makes sense. The song was also in another "movie" along with another one that sounded like it was from the same group. Thanks for the reply.

I understand Gary Oulett and his son were very good at making "copycat" music. That is is was similar but not enough to warrant royalties. That saved a bunch of money.
At least that is what Gary told us at the Bob Marwood seminar. Richard BTW Rich does answer his email but he is a working pro so sometimes things get backed up.

That's why I wasn't sure if he was personally answering e-mail or had people help him with it. Reference to Gary Oulett... http://www.camirandmagic.com/sc_004.html Anyone have this CD and could check to see if the song is on it?

Concerning the piece of music that Rick uses in his daily show for Osmosis.... he actually wrote that one himself, along with other pieces in the show. Personally, I prefer the piece that he uses normally in the daily show to the one that Gary Q. rewrote for WGM.
Regarding how close Gary Q's pieces were to the original.... The piece he wrote for Greg Frewin's bird act is remarkably close to the original that Greg uses. It also made it very easy to match applause cues to music cues when they could simply write the musical cues in post. Also... Rick does answer email personally, not staff. He is very gracious and informative regarding questions that he is in a position to answer. |

Was the F/X area always there? I try to make sure I post in the correct forum and I don't remember seeing F/X before.
I've never heard Rick's version of the song (I've never seen him perform live). That's good to know that Rick answers his own mail. I went to a DC show and he didn't even come out and sign autographs. I thought that was pretty much standard for performers, but I guess he's too busy to deal with so many fans each night.
