Walking down to my local WH Smith (UK) reveals tons of magazines about cars, PCs, fishing, stamp collecting, sci-fi and even steam trains, but not one on magic. Now, I realise that it would probably be a bad thing to have a regular newsstand magazine that went into depth about techniques and tricks, but are there any closed circulation titles (ie subs only) other than The Magic Circular, which only goes out to members of the Magic Circle?
There must be. Chris. |

M-U-M only goes to members of the Society of American Magicians, and now that its new editor is John Moehring (formerly of Magic Magazine, the most popular magic magazine in U.S. magic shops), people should be joining the S.A.M. in droves just to read it.
In the non-closed-circulation world, there are two excellent magic magazines in the States: the aforementioned Magic (www.magicmagazine.com); and Genii (www.geniimagazine.com), which is consistently brilliant. Best, Neil

I am an avid reader of Magic but have not read an issue of Genii.
Is Genii similar to Magic magazine? What characteristics distinguish Magic from Genii? I am curious and may end up purchasing both in the near future. I love Magic magazine. Kind regards, Rich

Cheers.
I wonder why I can't find any UK newsstand ones then. Hmm. There's a publishing opportunity for someone! Chris. |

Genii is the older of the two, and despite the recent changes, still retains the old "trade" magazine feel. ie: not as "commercial" as magic. Magic is much more of a "regular" magazine that just happens to be about magic.

Genii has gotten better by becoming more regular. Every two months it has an illusion plan from Paul Osborne. Magic has more color to it's pages.

And what about Antinomy ?
This magazine looks great and has tremendous opinions in the forum. Seems that it's only available by suscription. Waiting Peo review announced for this week-end to suscribe. :bikes: |

I don't think it would be a bad thing to have magic magazines in newstands. If most of the content of the magazine is: Promotions of products, Articles which doesn't discuss methods, announcements, etc. Maybe a sections of tricks may raise some doubts, but many of the explanations of tricks use language that only someone who is familiar with the terms will understand. In other words, only someone who is interested in magic will go throug the trouble of buying it and reading it in depth.
