A question to anyone that owns this trick.
I have looked at the ellionist products (not the black deck one) and also the penguin magic product. I assume they are made by different people. This leads me to quality etc. Which is the best card rising gimmick on the market, I have only seen the above two, and both look like they use slightly different materials. I would assume that all rising card decks, will allow you to use an unforced card. Any help would errrr help! Many thanks Steve
I do look forward to the day when you post something constructive.

Believe it or not the rising cards has many versions. If you are talking about the what we refer to as the 'DeVano' type of rising cards, then quality maker are Arne, amy, and George Richbark. The latter is uses the pin principal and would be my choice see and read about it at http://www.richbark.com . It cost double the others but not having to mess with tape and such is my choice. These are being made by importes now and the quality is very good.
You can get a nice rising cards from http://www.stoners.com for $20.00. |

Save yourself time and trouble, and just do what he recommends...but a deck from George Richbark. Mine had a problem after 3 years, sent it back, and got a brand new one. Magic shops sell the Richbark deck for like $60, you can save a lot of money buying from him directly!

Steve,
Do yourself a big favor and stay away from the "Devano" style rising cards. Because there is a superior method available that lets you use ANY deck where you can have ANY chosen card rise up. You can even BORROW someone's deck, let them pick a card and their card rises up! You can hold the cards, or better yet put them in the card box before rising. You can even let THEM hold the box if you like! When the card rises, you or they can remove it. Then you take the cards out of the box and hand back the deck and the box and that's it! The box is their box and not gimmicked in any way. You use their cards so they're not gimmicked either! It's clean, simple, and powerful. No mechanical gimmick to hide, no sticky tape or points, no block of cards stuck together, none of that. I use something called "Ultimate Rising Card" by Jerry Somerdin. I believe the same or similar item is also called Kundalini Rising. IMHO, this is a simple, clean, elegant and INEXPENSIVE ($6.50 - $10) solution to the rising card. Here is "Kundalini Rising" at Hank Lee's: http://www.hanklee.org/xcart/customer/pr......p;page=1 Here is "Ultimate Rising Card" at Tannens. You have to scroll down the page a bit: http://www.tannens.com/cart/cat47.html :) Craig |

Thank you all for your comments, and in true fashion of this forum, this had led to a few more questions....sorry...
first to wmhegbli - I understand how the normal CR works, with some stickness etc (without exposing) you mentioned the pin idea, will this mark the card, i.e a pin mark at all? and finally to craig crossman where can I buy this from, I did a quick search and came up with nothing? once again many thanks to all 3 of you for taking the time to help me out steve
I do look forward to the day when you post something constructive.

Kundalini Rising works great for those restaurant/walkaround situations where there's a guy sitting at a table waving a deck of cards at you. I know lots of people who bring their own cards to a restaurant or anywhere there might be a magician. Trust me, the Richbark Devano deck is the best you'll ever get. NO sticky pads, to tape, no adhesive at all. It's the "pin" version. In my handling, there's no question in the minds of the audience that it's a regular pack. Shuffle 'em first...always. AND spread 'em between your hands...they know there's nothing attached to anything.

No the pins will not mark the cards in any way. You will ask yourself 'how do they do that'?
With some thought you can use any deck to if you are out to prove something with a devano. The other deck mentioned leaves a lot to be disired. You cannot put the deck down and walk away. You cannot have the deck in the box and have the spectator hold the box by the flap. Believe me you will be very disappointed with the gaff Craig suggests. The Devano deck is the most practial deck for the rising cards. Close up or stage. |

They can hold the box itself OR I have them hold it via the flap! Sometimes I instruct them to swing the box a little back and forth. It's very eerie to watch the card rising when that happens. And I also sometimes lean the box against a glass and walk away. But I usually just hold the cards in the box myself as that gives me the most control over the effect. So to Steve and all, I maintain that going with the Ultimate Rising Card is a better choice because you really have no limitations compared to the other method mentioned, plus it is ALL examinable and you can even use THEIR cards. :) Craig |

I'm going to have to agree with Wmhegbli. I witnessed the Kundalini Card Rise at a magic shop a few years ago, and frankly, although a great method - it was obvious. The lighting has to be right.
There's nothing to see with the Devano Card Rise. Personally, I think both the sticky OR pin methods are just as effective (I've used both), but I'm going to check out the Richbark version, as well. Robert |

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I've dealt with George Richbark before, and had nothing but positive results in customer service. I have read of people who've ordered items AND paid for them in advance and had not received them for quite a while. That being said, my experience was absolutely the opposite. You'll love the Devano deck he makes. If you want to know my handling (I'm sure it's nothing original, it's just simple and convinces ANYONE that it's a standard deck), email me at: stevethomasmagic@aol.com and I'll share.

I would agree with Craig, I have used this method for 2years on and off (Ultimate rising card) and I love it. The deck can be borrowed, givin out for inspection before and after and with a tiny bit of work to the flap of the card case your audience member can hold the deck in the box. I have the other two sytems(DECKS) and I haven't had them out of thier drawer in oh about 2 years. But everyone is different so prefrences will always be a little different aswell.

Each version has its strengths and weaknesses. The one that meets my needs best is a variation using Automatic Kings.

I'm pleased to hear that their is an alternative to the "sticky" method. After owning such a deck for quite some time, well, its not very sticky. This is likely in part due to carelessness on my part, but regardless I find the method too unreliable.
Is the pin method more reliable, even without perfect preservation of the gimmick? Thanks, Micah |

The sticky method is reliable. Simply place a piece of masking tape on the part that moves (double over the masking tape into a cylinder shape and stick the tape to itself) and then replace it when it loses its stickiness.

Do a search for “toupee tape” and cut small squares of it to replace your sticky tape. It is thin, easy to use, and remains sticky after several dozen uses.
I like the IEL method but find that I can break the loops at all the wrong times. I tend to use the Martini (member here at the Café) made Devano deck (made with permission from the originator!). I bought some from Marty 12 or fifteen years ago and they are still working fine hundreds of performances later. Check out the Don Allen routine using the Devano deck on the Ron Bauer Think Like a Conjuror website (it’s a free download!). It is arguably the best routine of the rising cards around.

I have Kanduli rising and its incredible. The only thing is it will take a bit of expiermenting before you can actually perform it. Theres something you need to set up.
